If it's #5 bar then I clamp the pipe in my table vise and also put a piece of rebar into the tool handle for leverage. If I'm bending rebar that is sticking up from a footer, then I stabilize the rebar with the tool at the bend point and use the pipe for the bending. #5 bar is a bear. #4 is cake. **Q: bend 90 degrees ? 2-3 ft rebar?** A: Yes you can easily use this to bend a 90 but you will have to use a pipe to slide the rebar into. Lay the pipe on the ground slide the rebar in, stand on the pipe and use the hickey to pull the bar up into a 90. It’s not optimal a bender is nicer but we bend 90s with these on the fly all the time **Q: How tight (radius) can you bend 3/8" rebar?** A: According to the manufacturer a 1.8" diameter bend is the tightest the BNHYBR-16 can bend 3/8" rebar. **Q: how easy to bend 20' 1/2 rebar in 3 into a U with this?** A: Ideally you would use a manual bender cutter combo tool for easy 90 degree bends. I've seen posts from others indicating a hickey bar like this could be used along with a piece of steel pipe to put the rebar through and then the rebar can be bent as needed while standing on the steel pipe. It is supposed to also work on #5 but I have yet need to bend any #5. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ good for the price, indispensable for the job *by I***E on August 2, 2021* bending 5/8 steel rebar is not the faint of heart. This tool will do it. anyone complaining that it doesn't bend steel is just not up to the task. This will bend 5/8 rebar but be prepared to really put your back into it. 5/8" is the max you will bend with this. smaller sizes are no problem at all. This is an irreplaceable tool for the job. there may be better options but for amateur me it did the job.
