Official Kala Learn to Play Ukulele Soprano Starter Kit, Satin Mahogany – Includes online lessons, tuner app, and booklet (KALA-LTP-S)

I've never played before and I got this guy based on all the good recommendations and reviews floating around out there. I still didn't have very high hopes because "you get what you pay for" is almost always true. But I love mine so far. After a few days of playing with it, stretching the strings, and tuning it's holding a tune longer and longer. It sounds lovely. If I'm honest I even like tuning it lol. That was my first order of business this morning; I got out of bed and started messing with it. It's such a sweet little instrument and everyone in the house has played with it a bit since it got here. I just want to strum it constantly and I'm already thinking about getting Kala's pineapple shaped soprano. The pictures don't really do the satin finish justice either. It's almost shimmery in good lighting or sunlight and has a nice amber color to it. At this price I expected the finish to be kinda flat like cheap laminate flooring. It was a really nice surprise. Now for the "bad" (none of it's real bad) : The tuner app is easily replaced by any number of (better) free tuner apps and online lessons are everywhere thanks to a friendly and supportive community. The only real added value I see to the Learn to Play Kit as opposed to just buying the uke by itself is the gig bag and the booklet. The Kala KA-15s is, right now, just about $10 cheaper than this. I think it might've been smarter for me to just buy the ukulele and then spend around $20 to get myself a soft case. I'm not sure what I'll do with the bag after I've gotten one. It's lined and it can be worn like a backpack, but there's no storage pouches and it's very thin. It's not bad for a $10 bag I don't think, but I'm not really sure I needed it. YMMV. I wasn't happy with the way mine arrived either. Amazon had just put a shipping label on the retail box and sent it like that! What it is was fully on display for anyone to see and it also ruined the box. There were two gaping holes in the side of that box and if you've seen an unboxing you know there's only a thin foam bag and the gig bag between the uke and the cardboard box. I almost sent it right back unopened. I didn't know what I'd find in there. There's a small scratch, but it's otherwise fine and the scratch isn't very noticeable. I got in touch with Amazon today though and they gave me a partial refund immediately with absolutely zero fuss. This on a holiday! I've never had an easier customer service experience and I'd definitely buy again (judging from unboxings I've seen this isn't how Amazon usually ships them). The whole thing took maybe five minutes and my account was credited later in the day. I'm impressed.

This was my first ukulele, which I picked up in the beginning of quarantine and have been practicing every day since! This was a great, beautiful, well-made ukulele to start out with, especially since I went in with no knowledge of what made a ukulele "good". It's got a light, bright sound and after the first week or so, keeps its tuning very nicely. The size was great to learn on, but soon I'm hoping to upgrade to a concert or tenor. The reason this is knocked down one star is, I ordered the starter kit but it didn't come with the beginner's guide booklet as advertised. Not a big deal, since the internet exists, but a bit annoying. Also - I had wanted to learn ukulele for something like 2 years before I finally bit the bullet and bought one, and I'm so glad I did! If you're in the same boat, if this is something you're considering but you're unsure if it's something you'd like or actually commit to--I think you should do it! I'm so so happy with my uke and with the great new hobby I picked up.

Very nice piece

The Kala Learn to Play Ukulele Starter Kit is a great starter kit. I picked this up because I sold my six string and I felt like playing the Uke one day, but I was't sure I would be able to play it. This was cheap so I thought that I would try to learn from here first before making the commitment of buying an expensive Ukulele. The pamphlet that comes with is very helpful, however the tuning App was no help at all. I downloaded some other Android Apps that helped along the way. However, I was playing the Uke in a days time. I would highly recommend this to a beginner, somebody who wants to play but doesn't want to invest in an expensive Uke until they know they can play it. I would definitely recommend it for kids too. This is great for children. Pros: Price Case Pamphlet makes learning easy Cons: Tuning App (I recommend downloading a different app) Construction feels a bit cheap (to be expected, however Kala makes really good Ukes)

I was interested in starting my 10 yr old daughter on an instrument. Someone I was making small talk with said the Ukulele was an excellent choice for the following reasons: 1. inexpensive upfront cost- totally affordable. 2. there are only 4 strings on a Ukulele- a good place for little hands to start learning to read & play music. 3. the Ukulele is small and perfect if you live in an apartment or small dwelling. 4. very low maintenance/upkeep, only tuning. and this item provides a free tuning app! 5. listening to your child practice won’t make you want to blow your brains out. 6. the Ukulele is totally cool! and you can take it anywhere! Needless to say, my child was hooked right away! It is SO NICE to have her thoroughly enjoy something that doesn’t require a charging cable or WiFi. P.S. The person who recommended to me said to make sure the Ukulele is 1.) made of real wood and 2.) has real strings (not plastic) which this one does!

C'est mon premier ukulele, j'en joue depuis ce matin. Acheté suite aux conseils vus sur plusieurs sites qui le recommandaient. Je joue de la guitare, et tout de suite on voit que l'on a un instrument dans les mains, pas un jouet à bas prix. Les finitions sont excellentes sur un tel budget. Les cordes fournies sont de très bonnes cordes d'après ce que j'ai pu lire (je n'ai pas de comparaison). Les mécaniques sont simples, les cordes demandent plusieurs réglages les premiers temps le temps de se mettre en place (au début toute les 5 min puis sur une journée commencent à se stabiliser), elles ne sont pas trop éloignées du manches. Au niveau couleur, les photos ne sont pas forcément représentatives, c'est une couleur bois un peu foncé (pas orange/miel) (pas aussi foncé que les meubles anciens), la finition est matte ce qui me plait beaucoup. Les touches du manche sont en bois plus clair que le reste. Les découpes des frettes sont impec. franchement agréablement surpris, à voir dans le temps ! la housse est peu épaisse mais elle protège quand même un peu, suffisant pour moi, mais une vraie housse matelassée pourrait être préférable pour ceux qui veulent faire du chemin avec sans risquer de lui mettre un choc.

I am very happy with this item. It has a very nice sound tone for the money. Once strings are broken in it stays in tune well. It is made in China even though branded as Kala (American). That is fine as the quality is better than what you would expect for an instrument of this price. Very good value for the dollar and a great one to learn on.

Ideale per chi cerca un ukulele carino e a buon mercato. Ho avuto modo di confrontarlo con ukulele più costosi e meno e direi che si pone esattamente nel mezzo, proprio come il prezzo. Sconsiglio vivamente ukulele più economici di questo (a meno che non siano per bambini), questo risulta quindi un ottimo prodotto entry level.

Klingt gut, sieht gut aus, sauber verarbeitet. Eine einfache Tasche ist dabei. Wer eine Polstertasche braucht, muss sie sich extra kaufen. Das ist für mich in Ordnung. In der kleinen, schwarzen Broschüre sind die wichtigsten Griffe und ein paar Lieder mit Akkorden abgedruckt. Dazu gibt es wohl eine App, aber da ich kein Smartphone-Sklave bin, kann ich dazu keine Bewertung abgeben. Ich bin jedenfalls sehr zufrieden.
