This item is simply a PFD light. It is a small handheld light that's waterproof and is only intended to illuminate a small area around you when activated. It is also meant to clip or strap onto a life vest. The flare is a much different item. Specifically the ACR ResQflare is an electronic flare that's meant to be a signal in distress when activated. It can either remain on the vessel or float in the water including the ability to right itself in rough seas. This electronic flare takes C-batteries and is USCG certified, replacing pyrotechnic flares. When activated, it is visible for 6 nautical miles. **Q: do they float?** A: Yes it will float **Q: Will it float or sink if (accidentally) dropped in the water?** A: It's waterproof, but it won't float since this is supposed to be mounted on your life jacket. The slim, lightweight and versatile design fits easily in a pocket or hangs discreetly when attached to a life jacket or backpack. The flexible lashing loops on the side of the product allow for multiple mounting options including the webbing on your backpack or straps on your life jacket.
