This method equalizes water pressure and always assures partial water flow. This kit is designed to water areas up to 3.5 square meters, or 12 potted plants. 12 Blumat carrots (5") 3 Blumat tees (8mm-to-3mm) 7 meters (23 feet) of Superflex tubing 2 Blumat tee splitters 1 elbow splitter 1 hose union 1 hose end-piece 2 rain barrel/gravity tank connectors and installation instructions 1 8mm shut-off valve / air purge 1 plastic pipette (removes bubbles from Blumats to ensure proper function) How it works Each Tropf Blumat is filled with water and voided of air prior to being connected to a pressurized line (pressure from gravity-feed is adequate). The water inside the Blumat is in a completely sealed environment. The only exposure it has is through the pores in the ceramic cone. As soil surrounding the cone dries It pulls on the moisture inside the cone through osmotic pressure. Since this is a sealed environment and the pressure cannot equalize, this pulls on a plastic diaphragm in the top of the Blumat. When the diaphragm is pulled down, it allows an irrigation tube running through the top of the valve of the Blumat to open and emit moisture. It does this very gradually. As the water is emitted through the Blumat, the moisture is gradually restored to the soil surrounding the porous ceramic. This relieves the pressure difference between the chamber inside the Blumat and the surrounding soil. This stops pulling on the diaphragm, and the diaphragm restores its former position of pinching the irrigation tubing shut. Allowing each plant to determine its own watering schedule. *The brown knob on top of each Tropf Blumat can be individually calibrated to specific plant species, strain/cultivar/varietal, or media. Never knew carrots could grow vegetables.
Amazing watering system, read the instructions, twice. Do not instill your own thoughts simply follow the instructions set up and trust, truly an effective and practical system, not to mention affordable.

Nice system, nice price, but can be finicky
I like the system, it was pretty easy to set up. I added my own reservoir system, which consists of a pair of 4-gallon water dispenser bottles into which I installed connections from the kit near the bottom, one at each end of the tubing, creating a loop. Within the loop, I have connections to the carrots. Fine-tuning the drip sensitivity has been the biggest challenge: there was an initial issue with it being too sensitive and the reservoir drawing down rapidly. It's as though the system is never fully happy with its settings, and each carrot often needs to tinkering. Better this year (2nd) than last year (1st): maybe it just takes a while to get the hang of it.

Easy to set up and start. Product worked fantastic! My first use was on a two week vacation and I returned to happy healthy plants. It’s really nice to know I can step away for a few days and not worry.

Worked fine but description is wrong
So first the product itself works great. It takes a bit a patience to get it set up but once you do that it works just as advertised. I use it it to water my container garden. Not only does it make it easier since it provides a steady amount of water (as opposed to frequent wet/dry cycles when watering with the hose) but kept my plant alive and thriving while I went on vacation. BUT the item description says it includes a 5-gallon bucket with adaptors. It does not. The bucket is not included. Amazon fixed the problem for me but buyer beware. If you are planning to use a bucket for this you’ll need to spend the $20 here for one or purchase one from a box store, drill the right size hole, and use the included adapter to do that.
