Are there metric units displayed on any edge?

You order Inches or Metric. It is not a combination unit.

How do you debur the internal parts to improve how the heads slide on the blade?

I did not use anything on the heads. On the grooves of the rulers I took a fine flat needle file to the edges to remove any burs that I could feel. I used a combination of fine needle files to smooth up the locking mechanism. Also, I smoothed the ends of the springs where they had been cut to length. Then I used some paste wax in the grooves and on the surface of the rulers. Not perfect, but so much better. If you mess with the heads be very careful not to put them out of calibration (I did have to calibrate one of the squares when it arrived before I removed the burs).

if one or more of this set is out of square do i pay shipping back ?

They wouldn’t take mine back. My 12” square was significantly out of square. DON’T BUY THIS SQUARE!
