Thomas & Mercer Alcohol Explained 2: Tools for a Stronger Sobriety

I wondered if I would get much out of this book after reading the first one. The first book was mind-blowing. I just finished reading the second book and I must say that it reinforced many of the ideas from the first book plus gave new insights. I definitely recommend reading both books. They have changed my life.

After reading and enjoying Alcohol Explained, it was only natural to progress to Alcohol Explained 2. The first book informs us on what alcohol actually is and what it does to us psychologically, physically and physiologically. I found the second to not only expand on the first but also represent my life journey with alcohol almost exactly. The tools and tips to stop are fantastic. Even if you are just looking for a break for a period of time, this book is for you.

Truthful, no nonsense approach. Very helpful in understanding the actual reality of the consumption of alcohol and its negative results. Through his experience and a well thought out plan. This book offers people the tools who want to stay sober and not fall back into the old fantasy ideas surrounding drinking.

When do we get Alcohol Explained 3? I love these books. I'd read them just for entertainment. My favourite bit in this one was the discussion around alcohol getting credit for all the good things in your life (fun at social events, holidays, Christmas, etc) when really it isn't the alcohol which makes those events fun - your body makes you feel good anyway, we just give alcohol the credit. I read this book in a single sitting, stayed up late affecting my sleep. Ha ha. But I know without alcohol my sleep is going to be great anyway so I'll catch up just fine. This one may be even better than the original. If you are tired of feeling awful but can’t seem to stop, read it. This book should be in every doctor’s office, every psychiatrist’s office, every therapist’s office. Alcohol is not fun or relaxing. It’s all an illusion. Read it to find out why!
