I did mine with a router template and seriously awkward cuts, (routing end grain while getting a good angle on a queen rail end). The Good news is that the brackets have tapered edges so you can have a small margin for error and still be rock solid once screwed in place. The taper on the ‘hooks’ ensure a super solid grab with no rocking. These require some chisel work behind the hole plate to make room for the hooks so make sure your hook piece goes on the rail and the female Bracket goes on the legs or you’ll be chiseling out endgrain.Update 1 year later: Still solid. No rocking no squeaking. Feels bomb proof. Something I forgot to mention on install! Make SURE you install the hole plate in a consistent orientation! They have an offset that is easy to accidentally flip. One orientation will have the hook resting lower, flip the hole plate around and both plate faces will rest even with each other. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Time consuming but worth it! *by B***N on Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2018* I had made a bed frame in a shop class years ago. Finally got around to putting it together and went this route. We first had chiseled the ends out but realized it would take a long time so we used a router to mount the plates in flush. You definitely need a router for when routing out the slots for the bed rails. Everything worked awesome and no problem at all with how sturdy it all is. I would recommend these for sure. Used these on a king size frame. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Nice heavy hardware, but slight issues with the installation. *by L***S on Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2020* The hardware overall is good, and I'm glad I used them, they look great when finally installed. Also the joint is solid, and even without the bad frame completely installed the rails were solid enough to stand on. I'm using 6/4 walnut in case anyone's curious.Having said that, there are a couple of things to be aware of. Tp get these properly aligned was a little bit of a challenge as they have a tapered/beveled edge. So the top is about an 1/8" wider than the bottom. So when cutting the groves to place them it's not that easy to get the actual thickness of the bottom. I ended up just routing out a 5/8" grove, which was the thickness of the top. It's not that big a deal, but it did take some time to think through this as I wanted really tight lines, which was not possible given the bevel.The other issues were the "pins" or "hooks" that connect the pieces together were not square on all of them. Two had a slight skew, which meant that when I got it put together there was a slight overhang of my rails by about 1/16" at the top. I shaved them down with a block plane, so it ended up OK, but I spent a lot of time, in aligning and positioning so as not have to shave down and have really nice alignment. I attached a few pictures after I shaved down to give you a visual on how well it cleans up though. If you don't have a block plane you can spend an hour sanding it too, but that sounds like torture to me. Planing was hard enough.Overall I would buy again but would need to take into consideration the above, and plan accordingly.
