This was a gift for a young boy who loved it. Good to know some Airfix kits are still available!

My son received this for his birthday. He loves monster trucks and building things so when I saw this I knew it was a must! I also love that once assembled if you pull it back it will roll forward unlike some that do not have that mechanism. It’s perfect for my son who’s 10 the instructions were easy for him to follow with only needing help a few times. Highly recommend

This has just the right amount of difficulty for my 13 year old grandson. I wanted something that would be somewhat of a challenge. He seems satisfied and is working on constructing his new car.

I was fairly disappointed to find out that the vast majority of the parts are made out of plastic. The back of the box even has a "real metal" advertisement on it but the only parts that were metal were the screws, nuts, the 6 or so washers and the small parts that had a crisp angle to attach two parts together, usually consisting of two to three holes and an angle of 45° or 90°. The old Erector motor has been replaced by a much weaker block of this plastic but has lights incorporated. Lights are white and red for the front and back of a vehicle. Red lights blink like hazard lights when the motor is put into reverse. The gears have also undergone this downgrading process by removing all metal and having a triangular shape that fits the triangular metal rods. The old Allen key set screws have been dropped completely. Gears don't fit together as nicely and maybe it's just that I got a smaller set but there seems to be less gear options, whereas the Erector set I owned as a child had a decent selection of gears, including a worm drive gear, and the gears fit together more snug. Instruction book only has three of the twenty five models in it. The rest have to be accessed online, which shouldn't be an issue for most people. To me, it seems they saw how much profit Lego is making by marking up formed plastic and decided that was the more profitable design rather than keeping what set them apart from their closest competitor, which was an all metal piece set with thin plastic pieces to add curved accents or something resembling a windshield. I take solace in the fact that I bought this set instead of the almost ninety dollar set with the crane as the flagship model.

Brilliant kit,haven't done Meccano since I was 14. Unfortunately on reaching stage 38 there is a missing part. Have contacted Meccano but not heard back.Would have got 5 stars but for the missing part. Meccano / Spinmaster have been in touch since I wrote the review. Their customer care is brilliant. I no longer had the box,so Couldn't send the code required. They have let me know that the code is on the handle of the tool. They are now looking at sending me the missing part. You can also download the manual from Spinmaster for all 25 versions of this kit. So have changed the review mark to the 5 stars it deserves. Spinmaster have contacted me to inform me that because the kit is an older version they no longer support it so cannot replace the part. Luckily the missing part does not show up so is no big problem.
