Q: Is it good for throwing at targets?

In my opinion, No. This is a great Camp Axe. Heavy for it's size. Needs sharpening out of the box. If you want to Throw ( I do) buy a tomahawk, a Frankish axe or Viking throwing axe that are meant for throwing. Good Luck!

Q: The description says the cutting edge is 3.25 inches but what is the measuremetn from edge tip to edge tip in a straight line?

I'd say about that. I cant measure it right now, but 3 or 3.25 looks about right.

Q: Does this come with a sheath or blade guard?

Mine came with a blade guard only, but I bought it from a different vendor for 20 bucks. I purchased a heavy duty OD canvas sheath at the Army/Navy store for 4 bucks. By the way, I really like mine and the steel is very good!
