The second, was because of the price. Often you hear the phrase, you get what you pay for. And third, I was unsure how durable this product would be, and I was concerned it would fall apart while transporting my kayaks to the lake. Well, I have to say I am extremely impressed with these kayak racks. They are extremely durable, easy to put together and equally easy to mount to my car. I was concerned it would not fit my crossbar, but was Pleasantly surprised when it only took me five minutes to put on my car. You can see by the pictures in my review how nice these racks fit on my crossbar. I’m actually really excited about this purchase and Love that I can easily take these on and off when I wanna get out to the lake. The only Concern I have with this purchase are with the straps. The straps themselves seem to be durable, but the buckle does not seem to hold very well. I would definitely look into a higher quality, locking mechanism type buckle. I have used them to transport my kayaks a number of times and the hooks work great! The straps, however, are not adequate at all. They aren't ratchet straps, just little straps that pull through some metal teeth.
