Waste of money
After spending apx 8000 on radio and 1500 on Antenna I am not getting proper indoor signal coverage . Nothing special in sound quality....its ok ok. Battery consumption is also high. No special sound effects. Valume is also low. Better go for Some 3 in 1 option of good brands like Sony or Philips which is cost effective also. Overall I m not satisfied with quality compare to cost

After one week, I am impressed
I purchased the CL-100 to replace a Midland ER-102. After taking the time to set up the CL-100, I have to say that there really is no comparing the ER-102 to it. The Sangean is clearly more of a serious radio than the ER-102. Although it does not have a zillion bells and whistles like some products, it is higher quality than these gimmicky radios that claim they can charge your cell phone, serve as a flashlight, and power itself with a hand crank. The CL-100 feels solid to me. It is more compact than I expected it to be, but it provides pretty good sound from the single speaker and it also has bass and treble adjustments although the factory settings seem fine to me. Whenever you turn the radio on, the sound gradually increases to the volume setting you have chosen. There is a wide range of volume settings to choose from, so you are able to increase or decrease the volume in small increments to find what is right for you. This is especially helpful if you are using this radio in a work or study setting and like to have light background music without having to choose between a setting that is too low or one that is too high. Sangean equipped the radio with the ability to receive RDBS signals and so you can even look over at the screen and see what song is playing if the station you are listening to provides that info. This also allows scrolling alert info to be seen at the bottom of the screen when there is a weather alert. This gets me to the most important part of this radio - the weather band. The CL-100 allows you to receive every type of weather alert, and you can program it to receive or ignore each alert and then further narrow down the alerts by using county codes. You can be as specific or as broad as you choose. The radio has the capability of alerting you with voice or siren and even has the capability to add a strobe alert for the hearing impaired. Reception on this radio is above average. On FM, this radio tuned stations better than most other radios that I own, and it blew away the Midland ER-102. A local FM station that the ER-102 could not pick up at all inside my office was picked up clearly by the Sangean CL-100 by simply raising the attached extendable antenna. The CL-100 also has inputs for adding additional antennas, however it apparently no longer comes standard with the ANT-100 accessory as it used to based on other reviews I have seen. This is not that big a deal simply because reception is overall very good with this radio. AM reception is average. I will admit I had hoped for better AM reception on the CL-100, but it does do an adequate job of picking up local AM stations. It performs less competently at drawing in stations from far away. The signal from KMOX 1120 (five hours away) in St. Louis was weaker on the CL-100 than on most of my radios, however my local AM channels were received better than most of my other radios. I have no idea why this is the case, but it is. The buttons on the CL-100 feel durable and the way the controls are laid out is generally well planned. The radio is markedly higher in quality than any pocket radio or a gimmicky weather radio suck as the ER-102. The multitude of ways that this radio can be programmed and the quality of the reception and sound quality are far superior to other radios in this price point, in my humble opinion. The radio is better than most and has gone to the head of the class for me as my favorite little table radio right now. If you need a radio with a smaller footprint to sit on your desk or to sit on a countertop at home for weather alert purposes, this radio will do the job very well. It sits on my desk and takes up very little room, but it is a centerpiece of my workday. It has a battery backup which will allow it to function even if the power goes out, and this is really all you need out of this radio. This radio is not a portable radio, it is meant to sit on a table. If you need a true handheld or portable, I would recommend that you look at other models that will serve this need.
