Review: I hope they never make this one into a movie! S.F. Said writes sparingly, with just enough description to make your imagination work overtime. As you ponder yet another armageddon, the story unfolds without pity, just as childhood deals with the realities of otherness, abandonment, love, violence, and power. It is a wonderful resolution of what it means to have a soul in the human universe. --A wonderful fable for children of all ages, and especially, for parents and grandparents to read aloud to a child. Review: As a child this was my favourite book, from the amazing immersive writing and the incredible illustrations. As I got older I started to miss it more and more so I finally caved and I’m glad I did. It’s just as astonishing as I remember. When it arrived some of the pages were crumpled slightly but that’s no fault of the publisher mainly those who packaged it.

The listings/ online info about this book are misleading- this is not book 3 of varjak. This is by the same author but unrelated to varjak paw. One very upset little boy who saved up his money…

My son said it was one of the best things he has read, and was actually excited to do a book report on it for school. He finished it in 2 days, ignoring television and video games. Hooray!

Absolutely stunning! Phoenix ranks among the classics in sci-fi and fantasy for considering humankind's relationship to stars and space - that literally, we are all made of the same stuff - but is also a meditation on humanity itself, and not only are we made of star-stuff, we are also all linked - Axxa and human are not as different as anyone thought. This is both a rollicking good read, a sensitive and thoughtful look at what it means to be human in a world increasingly riven by war, and a beautiful artefact. Dave McKean's illustrations make a wonderful story into a modern classic.
