These secure the outermost rack grip to the car crossbars. The kit comes with two lock cores, a master installer key and two keys for the locks (one for each Yakima rack front and back) - its a little confusing when ordering because they want to know the number of sets, so I selected two thinking I was getting 2 kits with 2 cores, but it was one kit with 2 cores - I had to irder another set since I was securing 4 kayak racks to the crossties. Installation was pretty easy, although you do have to jiggle the cores a little to get them to seat in the rack locking hole. They work great at securing your racks and the keys are universal, so they work with any lock.
