It's a smoker, agrill, and comes with a GRIDDLE!!
I've had my Masterbuilt 800 for 6 weeks now. The gravity feed charcoal is a game changing design for me. You can layer the charcoal box with charcoal or charcoal wood, then wood pieces for smoking, then charcoal, etc. And the ash bucket is at the bottom and makes clean-up a snap. Assembly wasn't too bad. It may take you longer than you plan on so give yourself plenty of time. After assembly, be sure to season the grill correctly. Check out the videos on youtube for assistance. There is tons of information available. I know, because I think I watched them all. LOL I did make the most perfect smoked ribs I ever had. Along with grond beef jerkey, chicken, pork chops, wings, and fish. You can literally smoke something for a couple of hours, then turn up the grill to 700 degrees for finalizing cooking or searing if necessary. In about 7 minutes it will be up to temp from 250 degrees. No matter what temperature you set its pretty even and doesn't divate much at all. However be aware, like any other grills, there are your hot and cool spots inside. The griddle is a nice touch. The cooking manifold swtches out in about 30 seconds, and the griddle is HEAVY and a perfect surface to cook on and attaches easily. You shoud by some griddlle accessories for cooking on it however. I made smash burgers and they came out good and smelled up the neighborhood.. "cheezee bugar cheezee bugar, Pepsi, no Coke... I think it was the grilled onions. The control panel works well, but for some reason, somewhere between the time you turn it on and about 5 to 10 miutes later, the blower turns off and you have to repower the panel by turning it on and off. It works fine after that, but it has happenned 3 times already. Just be sure to monitor it at first until you get used to using it. I did download the app for operating the temp and timer from my phone. That worked well at first, but it is bluetooth, so if you walk away to far with your phone in your pocket you may loose connection and the fan will turn off. I generally don't use the app since I like to be outside with a beer and cigar when I'm queing. If your "on the fence" about buying one... don't be. You won't be sorry. I had a Trager pellet grill I bought 7 years ago. It was ok, but never really got the smoke taste I was missing like using the Masterbuilt. Plus, you cant sear with it, and it doesn't come with a GRIDDLE. Lastly, if you made it this far, search Masterbuilt mods. They're aftermarket accessories specifically for the grill. I bought the whole shebang before I put it together and am glad I did. If you have extra money do your research and get that also. Hope this helps. Happy grilling.

Works GREAT, but finicky electronics. Impressive customer service!
VERY happy with how this works once I get it up and running. It regulates temperature excellently and gives great-tasting meat. I am concerned, however, about the electronics. The blue-tooth / wifi worked until about half way through my first cooking (was slow-cooking a roast, so this was a several-hour affair), but then stopped working and I have not been able to get it to pair with either my iPhone of iPad since. Also, as I was starting my second cooking, the unit would not turn on. I checked all the connections, which seemed sound, but it still would not turn on. Finally, after I pressed the on button several times, it did come on and worked fine (except no blue tooth or wifi). Non-function of the remote capabilities is not a big deal: I'm pretty much always near the grill when using it anyway. However, I'm concerned about the control box in general: Is this finicky nature an indication that it may stop working soon? Again, that is my only concern. Otherwise, this is an amazing grill and I am very happy with it. 9/2/24 update: Continues to work, usually even with Wifi. It is still finnicky, but I can consistently get it to work. Masterbuilt actually contacted me with pointers, and then sent me a new control box. I have not installed it yet since I can always get the original one to work, but it is very nice to know I have it in case. EXCELLENT customer support, I would say.

DO NOT BUY THIS-Fan shuts off until100F after 20 minutes
We so wanted this grill to be the crรจme de le crรจme of grills. The ultimate grill for serious grill masters. This grill is the absolute perfect CONCEPT BUT WITH A FATAL FLAW DESIGN. We loved the fact that this grill could get up too 700 degrees and is gravity fed charcoal. You could cook a ton of stuff on itโฆ.if it worked properly. THE PROBLEM: It will only work as stated for the first 20 min- ie.,it will heat up, Fan will turn on until it gets to desired temp and then turn off until it drops 10-15 degrees, then back on to maintain that desired temp BUT FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME of 20 min. AFTER THATโฆ.the fan shuts off AND DOES NOT COME BACK ON until it reaches all the way down to 100 degrees F all the while you have your chicken or whatever else you are cooking is just sitting there on the grill barely warm. There are two side vents to help regulate the temp/fan as well, but even then, the fan stays off until it goes back to 100F. The temp sensor can connect to Bluetooth if you desire to troubleshoot. Weโve tried cooking on this grill several times even showing it off to friends and family because my husband was soooo excited about the ultimate design. We have tried cooking meat on this grill several times and it does the same thing over and over. Weโve had to always finish cooking out meat in the oven d/t it partially cooked because the grill fan continually shuts off after 15-20 min and does not turn back on until it gets all the way down to 100 degrees-clearly not enough heat to cook our meat. Forget it if you have a large party or want to smoke ribs or a pork butt. It will take hours and hours and nothing but a big fat embarassment. Itโs like having a Tesla that loses its charge driving down the roadโฆexpensive, nice concept, but worthless if you want to eat dinner before 10pm. The irregular temp control makes thr meat unevenly cooked, under and over as you constantly have to troubleshoot the temp. Weโve watched countless YouTube videos, emailed customer service several times, and tried to contact a live person. They have very poor customer service, as itโs virtually impossible to get ahold of anyone except via email and they make you jump through multiple hoops by locating the serial number and taking a photo and sending in a receipt to prove you actually own the grill BEFORE YOU CAN EVEN SEND AN EMAIL TO GET HELP! The grillโs biggest defect is in the apparatus that controls the fan and temperature. We received quite lame email instructions back for trouble-shooting. Our first email back simply described how the fan and temp gauge worked, Duh! The third email stated how to reset the trmo sensor with WiFi or to make sure the proper codes were showing. I finally just emailed them to tell them weโd tried everything as my husband was willing to do everything within his power to get this grill to work properly. ONLY AFTER I SAID WE ARE RETURNING IT (as I was within a 2 day window of not being able to return back to Amazon)did the customer rep from masterbuilt call us as weโd left our number in the first email 2 weeks prior. He only said โwellโฆI donโt know. Sorryโ. Thatโs it. Iโve heard horror stories where others bought their grills on the Masterbuilt site and they put people off until the window is expired to return it. You must register this product with Masterbuilt in order to have parts covered under the one year warranty. This does not guarantee you can return it. Luckily, I returned it to Amazon within the allotted time frame for a full refund! Whew! I barely made it and would have been out almost $800 if not. Overall, this grill would be the bomb if the fan and temp sensor would regulate properly, otherwise you cannot use it like a regular grill since itโs gravity-fed. Itโs rendered useless. Sadly, to my husbands disappointment, the customer service was so poor that we had no choice but to return it in time to get our money back. Hopefully one day someone can make it work. All other reviews on grills similar to this seem to have the epic fail between the fan and temp sensor-thereby, doesnโt work.

Turned a novice into a successful brisket machine!
This is my first grill other than hand-me-downs that got little use. I spent the last 2 decades in a very hot climate, and now live in an area where I like to spend days outside. But, I wanted to do more than steaks, and I needed a smart grill that could make the jump into backyard BBQ easy. I researched a lot, and decided on the MB800 due to its ability to do longer smokes while still being able to sear steaks. This was an awesome purchase!!! Out of the box....assembly was a little tough, but a few videos helped. No issues with missing parts or poor fit. Everything went together as expected. There are directions and videos on cooking off the preservative packing oils that should be planned for before your first cook. This grill/smoker keeps a temp well. If I set it to 225, it holds between 219 and 224 solidly for hours. Ramping up to 650 or 700 degrees to sear a steak takes less than 15 minutes. Shutdown is easy, just turn off the controller and replace the baffles to choke off the majority of air from the charcoal column. Mine came with a griddle. I struggled with where to store griddle items, initially, until I realized small black hooks on the left side.of the grill are made to hold the griddle on the side of the grill. The additional internal manifold for the griddle that helps direct heat up to the steel fits well on the bottom shelf. The manifolds need a good coating of vegetable oil, as they start to get surface rust pretty quickly. There are two 9" deep shelves. These are just deep enough for a 15lb brisket or a 10lb pork shoulder. You can buy deeper stainless.steel shelves from LSS, but I have not done so, yet. (Shelves are an odd size that only LSS makes...a small shop that makes Masterbuilt grill modifications.) I use Jeolous Devil lump charcoal with 4ish chunks of wood the size of my fist or so. For brisket, I use Jeolous Devil brickettes, as they burn a little longer. I'm really happy with this grill. It has allowed me to catch up to my friends who have been barbequing for years. A little AI guidance plus a smart MB800 has done the trick. My family loves the output from the MB800!

Great Grill, but Arrived with Cosmetic Damage
I purchased the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 800 and overall it looks like a very solid, well-designed product. However, mine arrived with cosmetic damage on the back, which is disappointing for a grill at this price point. Customer service was very attentive and responsive, and they provided a partial refund, which I appreciate. I havenโt fully tested it yet, but after assembling it, everything else seems in good condition and working as expected so far. Iโll be using it soon and will update this review once Iโve had a chance to fully test its performance. If it had arrived in perfect shape, this would easily be a 5-star product. Just make sure to check it carefully upon

Complicated Assembly, Good Grill
From What I can tell so far this grill will do what I had hoped. I also have the pizza insert which will be our first cook today. I went through burn off and seasoning cycles and was impressed with the speed of heat and smoke volume. I chose this grill because my Camp Chef pellet grill could not reach the heats I wanted. Unfortunately, I have to remove a star because of the complicated assembly. I did have delivery with free assembly, but it took 2 people over 2 hours while referencing online videos. I do not fault the assembly crew for this. They showed up early and did their best. It just seems to me that the assembly requires much more than I would expect from a product. I am very glad it had assembly because I am not sure I could have done it myself. The assembly crew were not perfect. I see several issues where they made mistakes. One of which will require me to disassemble the hopper to fix (the little guide for the fan baffle is not extended). They also lost one of the warming grates in the packaging I guess. I did not notice it missing until they were gone. I probably will never need both warming racks. One month update: I love this grill but I have to take away another star. One month in and the controller stopped working. Contacted support and will see how it goes but that does not help me with the brisket I planned to smoke tonight and is already prepped. I will update on support call. Additional issues found with grill assembly I have just been trying to live with. App for grill is complete junk. Worked for about 2 hours then stopped during a cook and never could get it to connect again. Uninstalled it. I would probably be better off getting an after market controller with better app support, but for the price I paid for this grill I should not have to. Edit 2: Plug arrived and resolved issue. I actually picked up a replacement with slightly different plug on Amazon over night to get back running. The support plug took a little over a week to arrive. The MB replacement is still feels flimsy. I have had Camp Chef pellet grill covered in same spot for 6 tears and never had an issue. I do not consider this plug weather\outdoor safe at this point. OVERALL - I love this grill and the concept. I have used the griddle the most so far. I really like cooking on it (BACON!) and the smoke adds flavor. Pizza oven insert is great too. Stone is not thick but functions well. I use parchment to launch then remove paper after 2 min. What makes me sad is the grill could have been done so much better. I have spent over $400 on LSS mods that really should not be necessary. The tower should completely seal from beginning. The design is problematic and they could have done better, likely even cheaper, using standard grill tape like LSS does.

*Updated* Damaged on Arrival
Update: Finally got one that wasn't damaged and had it assembled, so far I've only used the griddle which definitely has hot-spot issues but they're easy enough to manage. Once lit, the grill does change temperature very quickly and maintains temperature well. I spent extra and bought the mod kit to strengthen the fire box and what not after reading other reviews of it wearing out quickly. I haven't had a chance to try the the wireless yet. While it's a lot easier than a normal charcoal grill, I'm not sure that I would spend the money again if I had to do it all over. Didn't get to use or even see it assembled. It was delivered, box looked mostly fine, but when the assembler removed everything and checked it all, the underside was damaged, and the side dented. Not light cosmetic damage, damaged as in the rivets busted and was unusable. Naturally it's out of stock as well so a replacement can't even be sent, I just have to keep watching for it to be in stock and hope the price is the same, as well as hope it won't be damaged as well. If I ever get one I can actually use, I might update my review.
