This ruler is FANTASTIC....I'm a designer......art studio......yadda....yadda....yadda......so I know about art supplies.....I think I could build a room with the rulers I own.......so......THIS RULER.....is fantastic because of the safety guard that lifts up to protect your fingers......it is sturdy.....solid......a TANK IN the ruler world......even has rubber on the bottom to prevent it from slipping.....I'm telling you...people.....this is NOT your child's school ruler....it is manufactured with such detail......SO SOLID.....SOLID....SOLID....as the finger shield is its selling point.....so....if you want a fantastic ruler that shields your fingers from the dreaded xacto knife blade.........just BUY THIS.......i really am impressed with the WEIGHT and how sturdy it is......like i mentioned....IT IS SOLID......i had to find a solution to all the problems i was having when i would try to cut thru......some seriously thick....heavy.....cardstock......or cut thru a 10 mil laminated piece of art.....typically when you lay a ruler down on ANY slick surface...it moves like a Mexican jumping bean.......but.....TA DA......with this ruler....the straight edge does NOT MOVE.......AND.......which is the best part.......your fingers are PROTECTED from the knife's edge....I know it is "only a ruler"....but I'm just saying.......EVERY EVERY EVERY creative tool box and home needs this in their arsenal of treasures...!!!!!!!.....buy this PEOPLE....!!!!!!!!.....I think I'm in love.........with a ruler.......???????????????........HA...!!

I used to use the typical metal cutting ruler with the foam underneath to hold it still, but didn’t like that it was raised because it would sometimes cause inaccurate long cuts. This ruler touches the paper so you can see exactly where you’re cutting. The flap on the top is not only convenient for protecting the hand holding the ruler, but makes it really easy to move the ruler by only a little bit, especially if you flip it around and use the wrong side, which I like to do because it is closer to the paper. The grip on the bottom does work as great as the foam but it works good enough that it’s worth using over the traditional cutting ruler. To recap: - The ruler rests flat agains the cutting cut face which is convenient - The flap on top makes minuscule movements very easy - The grip works well enough IF you apply a little pressure (very similar to a traditional cutting ruler - Good quality materials, and comes with a protective sleeve

Great product. I have tried many types of cutters with this product (Xacto, utility, rotary, pocket knife). All worked as expected. Effectively eliminates the risk of slicing injuries. I almost lost about 1/4" off the tip of my left index finger several years ago due to an errant blade/ruler incident and wish I would have had this product back then. I bought this product to assist with cutting 10-12oz leather for gun holster applications (a high force application) with no issues. Really like the rubberized material added to the back. This material doesn't stick to the cutting mat when moving it around on the mat which aids in positioning, but holds firm when pressure is applied during use. Note: This product is superior Taiwanese quality, not cheap, substandard, Chinese quality, and as such, should last for a lifetime.

Exactly what I was looking for! High quality and very recommended. Do note that it's a dual unit system ruler. It has both millimeters and inches markings, but the side of cutting is the mm side, which is what I was looking for. But for those of you who use the inches system and need to cut according to inches units during cut, this ruler may not serve you best. It would have been a perfect international ruler if the safety element's axis would have been in the middle and could go for for mm and inches side.

I have a few metal rulers that I've used to help me cut paper and leather, but wasn't particularly happy with them. I liked the gadgety look of this ruler, and figured I'd give it a try. I wasn't expecting anything too different from the rulers I already had. I was pleasantly surprised by what I received! This ruler has a pleasant heft to it that makes it feel solid and trustworthy. The edge lies very flat against the surface of my cutting table, and the grip underneath the ruler keeps it from sliding about; it really grips well! The cut protection feature of this ruler is really excellent; a flap on top of the ruler hinges up, and stays in place at an angle. The mechanism here is really solid and smooth; it doesn't rattle or shake. You then can put your fingers behind this angled shield, and cut along the edge of the ruler with a razor knife. Since the edge of the ruler is really flat against the surface, you don't run into the danger of your blade slipping underneath. The positioning of the flap is really well thought out; you can get your fingers right up onto the center of the ruler to put pressure on it to keep it in place. (Another cutting ruler I have only lets my fingers over about 1/3 of the ruler, and it's easy to flip it up and mess up the cut--not with this ruler!) I loved this ruler so much, I immediately bought the 24" version so I can cut longer pieces of leather. I wish they also made a 6" version of this ruler!!! (Sometimes I have to make many small cuts, and a smaller ruler would be easier to maneuver for such a job.) This is now my go-to ruler for when I am cutting things!

The ruler I received has a guard protecting the centimeter side, not the inches side as was shown on the webpage. There should be a way to choose which is preferred. I will have to measure and mark my project, before cutting with the ruler as a guide. Other than that, the ruler is very well made and attractive. There are no sharp corners, it lays flat, the gripper strip underneath keeps the ruler in place on fabric, and the guide swivels up and down smoothly. The measuring marks start away from the ends of the ruler, so it's more accurate. (I had a wooden ruler that had measurements printed 1/8th of an inch off from the end, which threw everything off.) I am keeping it though, because it's good to have a centimeter ruler for sewing, and the shield does protect the fingers when cutting. The protective sleeve the ruler comes in has opening slits for removing the ruler, as well as the label. So it's reusable for storing the ruler.

I love this thing. It does everything it says it does, and it does it well. I'll draw attention to the plastic strip down the middle on the bottom. It hits the sweet spot of being "sticky" enough to keep things still, but not so "sticky" as to move stuff around when you are adjusting the ruler. It's a beautifully design and constructed tool. It's also VERY reasonably priced relative to other products right now.

first thing i noticed when i opened the package is the weight of the ruler-- it's dense which indicates to me that it's going to assist me in keeping steady when i use my rotary cutter or other blades. the shield is collapsible and is on a suspension so it doesn't collapse on it's own. honestly, it's a beautiful ruler and the collapsing feature is ideal for storage.
