Vincent Price turns in a classic performance as a sculptor, possessed by an evil spirit, who hires a model (Nancy Kovack) to pose for him -- then learns thereafter that she has been brutally murdered. Review: You Can't Go Wrong with Vincent Price - I love Vincent Price. He's always been a favorite of mine. This is one of my favorite films of his. I'm glad it's finally on DVD. It's a creepy story of a demon-like being which can go into a person and cause them to do evil deeds. It thrives on evil. It enjoys taking a good, honest person and changing him into an evil, murdering, conniving, selfish person with no scruples. That's what it does to Vincent Price who was an honest, kind judge. It's creepy the way this being can go into your body and take complete control of you. What horrible things he gets Vincent Price to do, including commit murder. I think this is one of Vincent Price's best movies though my all-time favorite is "House of Wax". Review: For ALL the "Horla's" Out There! - I remember seeing this with my older brother (back in Elementary School) and we were more fixated on the term "Horla" than the movie itself..... the next week at school, everyone was a "Horla" (I wound-up marrying a "Horla" too - but that's another story......). That being said, This is one GREAT Vincent Price movie!!! His acting is really great and yet, you realize he's so 'over the top' as the movie goes on but you don't care...... Glad to finally have it on disc (my VHS copy was hideously saturated with COLOR......) it's absolutely beautiful to watch - (unless you only own a black & white television - and let's face it, only a "Horla" would have one of those nowadays!).......

Diary of a Madman (MGM Limited Edition DVD-R)
Not bad early 60's Vincent Price horror film. Price plays a French magistrate (a judge?) who slowly becomes possessed by an evil spirit called a Horla. Usually a respectable, decent man, he starts an affair with a married artist's model (who's a tramp) and eventually murders her. When the model's husband is accused of the killing, the magistrate, still under the influence of the jeering Horla does his utmost to make things right. Not Price's best but watchable. Joseph Ruskin's marvelous voice plays the unseen Horla. The MGM Limited Edition DVD-R is excellent quality. The only extra is the trailer. Recommended for horror movie fans.

Best VP ever
Probably the most controlled and understated Price movie in the genre. Vincent never looked, sounded or performed better. Interesting concept of a rationale for evil acts. Great support cast, nice production values. Superb print; glad to own it. Arrived quickly; well packaged to survive the mail. Thanks to everyone involved

MGM Limited Edition DVD-R - movies on demand
This dvd-r is mastered from a decent print in the 1:66 to 1 screen ratio, with anamorphic enhancement. The Technicolor is fairly saturated but warmer (reddish) in tone than a more-accurate looking trailer, with is presented letterboxed at 1:85 to 1. The trailer is the only extra. The film itself has some sloppy pacing and a yammering screenplay, albeit one that Price can dig into with his particular brand of literate histrionics. The story tends to get sillier as it progress, and becomes downright silly as it closes, but it doesn't detract from the B-movie charms of this minor thriller. This should definitely please Price fans, and collectors should be satisfied with the presentation.

A worthy addition to any Vincent Price collection!
I wouldn't go so far as to call it "The Most Terrifying Motion Picture Ever Created!", but it is a very well-done movie and again, Vincent Price's acting is superb.

Diary of a Madman is based on a short story written by Guy de Maupassant, 'Le Horla,' (The Horla). The grandmaster of horror, Vincent Price stars in this film as renowned and respected magistrate Simon Cordier who deals with the case of Girot who is accused of the murder of four people. Girot claims he was under the influence of the Horla, an evil entity when he committed these crimes. The horla is capable of psychokinesis and complete mind control. Girot attempts to kill Cordier who acting in self defence kills Girot. The horla enters Cordier's mind and body with deadly and tragic consequences for the future which is recorded over time in Cordier's diary. Vincent Price gives an excellent performance as the troubled and haunted magistrate Simon Cordier. Diary of a Madman is a brilliant film which even after all these years sends a chill down your spine Good old fashioned vintage Gothic horror! I recommend Diary of a Madman and beware of The Horllllaaaaaa!
