Does this sharpener work on both Asian style and standard European style knives?...There is a distinct difference in the angles of these blades.

I did not find the sharpener worked very well at all. Maybe it was me. The first problem I had was keeping it in place with the suction cup. It certainly does not stick to all "smooth" surfaces. I am not sure about asian versus European blade angles.

How do I get the suction cup found to hold this knife sharpener to any counter? I had ordered this knife sharpener and the base is smooth.

The Ulu knife is a half moon shape. Can this sharpener hold the angle around a half circle shaped blade to sharpen it?

Most ulus have a chisel ground blade shape. So look at yours carefully first because this product is really set up for that angle.

How do you release the suction? i.e. remove it from the counter/table after use

There is a small lever attached at the top to both set and release the suction from the countertop or table. I like that it's sturdy and doesn't budge on me once I lock it in place, and it's just as easy to unlock when I'm finished. It's a convenient little gem that fits right in the corner of one of my my kitchen drawers!
