A New Level of Scone Perfection! Add an Orange Icing for Superb Flavor and Palatability!
My husband told me how to make the cranberry orange scones even better with more icing. So I had an idea about how to make enough orange icing for these blueberry scones too! I will tell you there are a few secrets to getting these just perfect. I started off only defrosting 1/2 cup of unsalted butter which is 8 tablespoons so I had to add 2 tablespoons of salted butter because I did not realize this needed 10 tablespoons of butter. That mistake actually worked in my favor and the extra salted butter made these taste even better. Also I used room temperature butter which was so easy to cut into the flour mixture with two dinner knives. Once I got the butter into the flour it seemed like I was going to need more than 1/2 a cup of whole milk. So used 3/4 cup of milk. That is recommended by more than me! I listened! The dough was a bit softer however so I just dumped the whole bowl of dough onto a rimmed nonstick baking sheet and quickly formed a round and pressed it down on the baking sheet as much as was possible. I then cut it into 8 pieces with a bread knife, leaving all the pieces together and baked them for 20 minutes exactly at 425 degrees. Then I used a mitt to take them out of the oven and used a regular dinner knife to cut the wedges apart and separated them with a turning spatula. Then put them back in the oven for exactly 2 more minutes. Perfect! Now while they were baking I'd made an orange icing with 2 cups of confectioners' icing sugar, the zest of one orange (use small short cuts of the zester so you don't have to chop up the zest) and 4 tablespoons of orange juice. Now I did have to add in about 3 or 4 more tablespoons of confectioners' sugar to get the texture just right. Once all mixed up with a spoon I transferred the icing into a gallon zippered plastic bag and set it in a bowl with all the icing into one corner. Later after the scones had cooled a few minutes, I snipped off the corner of the plastic bag with a scissors and proceeded to pipe the icing onto the scones. Wonderful! These scones turned out to be the next level of scone perfection. The added orange icing made them superbly flavorful and palatable. I'd say they were about as delicious as a scone gets. My husband agreed that the room temperature butter was part of the secret since it absorbed well into the flour and the icing really made the blueberry flavor pop! So yes, this was a great value for money and the baking time was about 22 minutes and putting the mix and butter together took maybe 5 minutes. So in under 30 minutes you can have fresh from the oven scones for the most amazing breakfast or snack ever! I think this mix uses the right amount of butter for the amount of flour leaving the crumb lightweight and delicate. Really I could not have asked for more deliciousness! I'm getting another mix because now that I figured these out I want to make them again! Allow at least 2 scones per person! These are very easy to make and wow they are good! ~The Rebecca Review

Delicious but need elbow grease!
This was my first attempt at baking scones. Cutting the cold butter into the mixture fast enough to keep it from melting took plenty of elbow grease even though I cut the butter into very small pieces before adding it to the flour mixture. When I added the 1/2 cup of cold milk, the mixture was still very dry and required another 1/4 cup of milk to get it to stick together enough so I could knead the dough gently into a flat ball to cut the scone pieces. After all that, I read online that the dough should be crumbly and messy and indeed mine was.. but the scones baked up so light and delicious, so in the future I will use 3/4 cup of milk..however the recipe I saw recommended cream so that the scones rise more. I think I will try that next time. We ate them with plum jam and clotted cream. It was a nice treat for New Years Day!

Delicious and easy scone recipe!
Just made these scones for breakfast today. The whole family loved them. The scones are easy to make and turned out perfectly. Note: I grated the butter and ended up using an extra 3-5 TBS of milk. My items were well packed by Stonewall Kitchen and arrived promptly. Will definitely order again.
