One of the best IEM you can have if it fits your ear lol
Stainless steel body is quite heavy but feels nice to have it in hand. So far I like how it sounds. it is neutral + mild bass boost on the sub-bass area adds a bit of warmth into the song. It is the 3rd iem from Etymotic I bought but hardest to get the right fit. The housing is in the way that it cannot go any further after certain insertion. I was able to fit evo deep, about the same as er4xr would go. I have to try a bit more to have final thought but so far it is very good iem if you can fit it to your ear. if you don't get enough insertion depth or seal, it sounds like cheap $10 iem, especially in the mid-high area. Insertion depth is critical otherwise high extension drops fast after 10khz. I can tell why there are two very different impressions saying it lacks treble extension on the other hand saying it retains classic ety sound + bass on this iem.

Love the sound, hate the cables.
I have been an Etymotic user since the original ER4S. The complaint has always been the lack of bass. They mostly fixed that here, although at the price of a more cumbersome package. It took a bit of work (and some aftermarker foam tips) to get a good fit. My ears are not very average, but these worked better than I had hoped. I just had to rotate them until they fit in close close. No problem getting a good seal. The sound seems well balanced. Bass is deep but on the dry side. I would call it "punctual" because it starts and stops so quickly. There is no resonance or overhang. Mids are beautiful and detailed. Treble is a bit blurry to my ears. Cymbals don't seem to have the right amount of buzz or crispness. However I will take a bit too little treble over too much any day of the week. The best part is the dynamics. That is the most amazing thing, and something I always crave in headphones and speakers. These deliver! Now the cables are wretched things. Maybe most users want hair fine cables that can tangle up just laying on a table, but I want something more substantial. They go up over the ears and cinch behind the head, so microphonics and wind noise are a non-issue. Looking for a replacement.

Cables too thin difficult to handle
These are great, a bit too heavy in the ear and can pop out (I do not have a custom earpiece). The cables they come with are extremely thin and difficult to handle. Mine got stuck in the aluminum container they provide and were ruined within the first 2 weeks.

Excellent sound, passively block noise better than most IEMs, built well, fit my ear great
A well-balanced sound signature, with deeper defined bass, mids are silky and accurate, high freq. nicely extended but for me - could use a wee bit more emphasis. The soundstage, though not as expansive as over-the-ear headphones, is better delineated and close to other higher-end IEMs with some real outside your head imaging on the right recording. Overall, a fuller, less analytical, and more lush sounding IEM from ETYMOTIC. (I own the ER4XRs and ER2XRs to compare.) Some people don't like the thin Linux cable. I find it's less noticeable in use, with very little noise transmission. As for fit, I have narrow ear canals (called surfer's ear) and therefore many great sounding IEMs don't fit me well. ETYMOTIC with their narrower spouts fit me perfectly and it's the same for the EVO. The difference is the larger heavier housing containing the 3 balanced armatures. It's made of stainless steel and painted a very nice shade of metallic blue. I don't mind the weight of the unit and when properly seated in my ear, they disappear. Accessories include a really nice aluminum case and all the sizes and types of ear tips you'll need.

Typically Etymotic in a way: you will either like it or hate it with a passion
I have always been a fan of the Etymotic brand - well, after knowing them for more a decade that is. The clinically accurate sounds of their original IEM product - the ER4 Series has somewhat been replicated in their recent products, but their "you will fit if you are fit to wear these" comes even more so. By that what's always a good thing - the true sound isolation from the deep-sitting tri-flange tips in your ear canal; the clinical-accurate delivery of tunes to your eardrums, and the fatigue that comes to your eardrums are all inherited. A good old friend with a temper that is. If you have the business need for these IEMs, you would probably have pulled the trigger before reading my tiny review here - when the price is right. If you are reading for an opinion of what these are, they are fantastically built tools that improved upon the workmanship of the products the legacy was built on, but you need to make it work in your scenario. It's not for everyone, but indispensable for those who need this tool. Imo for something more musical? Give Shures & Westones W/Mach series a try maybe? I am not so fluent of the languages of the other iems unfortunately.

For when you are serious about your music
If you have no clue about the name Etymotic, then these are not the earphones for you. These are absolutely some of the best wired earphones money can buy. They are capable of extracting a high level of detail from a well recorded source. If you are only going to use them with a mobile device, then you are wasting your money. You absolutely need an external DAC and a high res source to get the complete benefit from them. As an owner of the original er4, I am very satisfied with this iteration from Etymotic.

Just get the ER2SE
The lack of high frequency extension in this IEM completely nukes detail. Air frequencies are nowhere to be found. In addition, treble that occurs earlier sounds too harsh and bright. This IEM is quite fatiguing to listen to. Additionally, I can only insert this deep enough for an 8.2 kHz resonance peak. With the ER2SE, I can insert deep enough for the resonance peak to occur at 13,000 Hz and cancel the dip that occurs in the driver for a peak free response. The ER2SE Absolutely rolls this in treble quality. The mids also come across as too recessed in this IEM. There is just no engagement. Surprisingly, bass isn’t as boosted as I expected. The boost is mostly concentrated in the sub-bass region, but the slam is nowhere close to the ER2SE due to the lack of high-frequency extension killing transients. The Etymotic Evo is a really terrible IEM. Switching from the Evo to the ER2SE feels like you are entering another world in terms of detail.

Delicate and unuseful
Sound quality quite good and I use while traveling on a iphone. My complaint is the wiring to the ear buds is thin as a human hair and too delicate for use while traveling.

Highly rated
It's extremely fussy about how it penetrates your ear canal. When you get both ears right, it's remarkable. I went from regular earphones to Etymotic ER4XRs and music was a revelation. A couple of years later I went to the Evos and it's another revelation. The ER4s revealed detail in abundance and the Evos have revealed even more. I mostly listen to 70s to 90s music. The guys that mixed the sound for that era must have had amazing ears and equipment to do the job that they did; there's so much in the sounds that they created that I'm only now hearing.

Too fussy to keep
Bought when they were on sale for £250. I really wanted to like them but couldn't get past the downsides. Audio quality and isolation is top notch. I could barely hear my motorbike or anything else on the motorway at 70 mph. The cable is flimsy feeling because its so thin and light. I don't have any confidence this wire will last a week under my normal use. I feel like a better cable would solve all the problems I was having. The earphones are very, very heavy and will wiggle and wobble as you move around. Running would be impossible with them in. On the motorbike they shook up and down with the vibrations and movement, which also affects the sound quality or blocks it entirely when they don't line up to your ear canal. The yellow foam tips help hold them in place but there is still some movement that changes the audio quality. It wouldn't be as bad with a thicker, stiffer cable to hold them in place over your ears and support the weight. If I was going to keep them, I would need to make my own sturdy cable.

Excelentes audifonos, cable horrible
