Flawed design, waste of time and money!!!
Definitely would never buy again. Being friction plate based design, when the lid closes as it get closer to closed the leverage arm makes the force vary. End result is you tighten down the friction so it stays open and requires a good amount of force to start closing, then as it get close to close and the leverage on the friction hinge is greater, the lid just drops and slams shut with a bang. Absolutely useless design, I really regret screwing them into my nice wood toy box, highly recommend you avoid this crap, not at all worth your time or money!

Great hinges
Great hinges. A little difficult understanding the installation instructions but that could have. Been just me.

They Work When Used Properly. Will Do For Most Projects If You’re Aware Of Limitations
First, let my tell you how to calculate the “weight” of a door/lid or technically foot-pounds. (DOOR WEIGHT)x(DOOR INCHES FRONT TO BACK) x 1/2. For example: Lid weighs 10 pounds and is 15 inches in depth. 10x15x1/2=75 ft-lbs. When fully open there is less weight on the hinges but as the lid gets nearer to fully closed, the closer it gets to its full weight. So first, let me tell you what these hinges are not. They are not torsion hinges that will hold a lid open at any degree or opening. That would require a visit to a woodworking or cabinet supply site to find such a beast. Truthfully, there’s not a decent blanket chest or toy box out there that will have a lid with less than the 50 pounds capacity that a pair of these hinges is rated to support. I would have preferred such a beast but could not find any that worked with the design of my project and still allow the lid to fully open. My project is a blanked chest with a lid with a calculated “weight” of 105 pounds. I used one pair and adjusted to full tension. Once the lid is open to a little over 45 degrees, you can hear the spring engage and the lid will stay open. From a fully open position, it does take a fair amount of pressure to close but once it gets below (in my case) 45 degrees, it then slams without resistance. Anyone who has posted that these are truly not soft close is, I would wager, using with a lid that is over capacity. See pictures and video. Also note, these hinges are symmetric, not LH/RH so there is some tiny differences in spacing possible when installing to be cautious one edge versus the other. The measurements in the instructions are in metric/decimal (not imperial) so be ready to do some calculations. SUMMARY Do they hold a lid fully open? Yes Are they truly soft close? Only when used within capacity Is there still potential for injury to little finger? Yes, when used beyond capacity What’s ideal use? Lighter overhead cabinet and chest lids

NOT for a toybox. Not soft close. Instructions are horrible.
Adequate is all I can say for these hinges. I put them on a chest that would flop all the way open, and you had to hold the top up to get anything out of it. It was a pretty non-functional chest. I was hoping to use the chest for grandkid toys. It is NOT SOFT CLOSE. The hinges come with 8 pieces that need to be put together (not including the screws). There are instructions that the seller will email to you and some in the package, but all of it is just indecipherable junk. I found that it was easier to put the parts onto the chest that screw in, and then attach the hinge arms to them. I am sure there are multiple ways to accomplish the task. Also, I followed the measurements for the first pass at installing them, and I guess because my top has a big lip, the measurements did not work at all. I had to undo everything and install them by hit or miss guessing (I did ok since it closed). I have them tightened down as far as they can go, but the chest lid still slams down after the initial tug to get it started to close. I may be because the chest lid is heavier than these hinges are rated for. Nonetheless, the hinges are not overly sturdy, the screws are pretty bad (I stripped one getting it back out due to the soft metal used), the instructions are horribly written, the illustrations on the instructions are blurry, and you cannot even tell what they are trying to describe, and the whole setup is rather wobbly even with everything tightened down. I will give them a pass on the NOT SOFT CLOSE issue, given that my chest top may be rather heavier than it was rated for, but overall, it is just mehh. I am not impressed. I will keep these hinges on because they at least keep the chest top from flopping all the way open, but I will look for another soft-close device so the kiddos don't get decapitated when this slams shut on them.

Not soft close. Lid will slam on (kids') fingers. Got mismatched hardware. Poor instructions.
Horrible not-understandable instructions. Mine were in already-opened bags and taped with office tape. I ordered a set of 2, and they were from different runs - the attachment plates were not the same from set to set. They are NOT soft-close. They hold the lid open fine. But once you start to close the lid, it will slam down. If I had kids to worry about, no way in the world these would be acceptable as "soft close" hinges. They'll do for me, but had I known the above, I'd've looked elsewhere instead.

A hinge above the rest
Builders are crafters. These are great hinges highly recommend them and have great reviews from others as we use this product. I will order these again and again they hold up on under pressure with children’s toy boxes and other wood building products.

Don’t buy these, I did and threw them away!!
I bought these to replace failing hold opens on my grandchildren’s toy box. I should have followed my instincts and not bought these particular ones but I did and now after spending an hour trying to get them to work I threw them in the garbage. My issues; Poor quality: the screws that came with were useless terrible quality which I expected (I usually buy better screws for items like this) but there were additional problems with quality. There were 4 identical cheap plastic bushings/washers that were supposed to fit between metal parts but didn’t fit! Useless instructions: These come unassembled and there were 8 pieces ( not counting the screws) that could have gone together different ways but the instructions didn’t clearly show or explain how to put them together. See my photo of the terrible instruction sheet that was included and remember this was all that was included to explain assembly. I know to expect poorly translated instructions and have seen some pretty bad instructions but these were of no use with awful photographs and nonsensical text. See the photo I took of the instructions. I can’t address the functionality, or durability of these hold opens because I couldn’t install them and just tossed them in the trash. I’m sure I could have eventually figured these things out and made them work but because I had doubts about the quality didn’t use them. It’s imperative that this hardware work correctly to insure safety of my young grand children and I have no confidence that these would be safe. DON’T BUY THESE!!!!!!

Great Product!
I was quoted at a door shop over $100 for a set of hinges similar to this. Thought that was insane and ordered these and couldn't be happier. The instructions are on the bag the hardware comes with and tells you the dimensions of where to mount the the brackets for the respective angles of opening. Yeah they're not great and you'll have to build the assembly yourself, but it's pretty self explanatory of where the parts go to build it.

installed
all working well and can be adjusted to the weight of the door.

Good enough
Works great for propping up ~25lb wooden lid. Not confident in letting go entirely for the slow close, but you can feel some dampening when lid is nearly closed, so no slamming sound. Negative reviews are installing it reversed from how we did it. Unsure if that makes a difference. To be clear this isn’t the ideal/perfect solution but it’s good enough for just propping open a relatively heavy lid securely. Installation instructions given were inadequate. We were able to figure out the correct mounting positions with some trial and error, using lots of tape, pencil markings and swearing, ymmv.

Doesn’t work?
What am I doing wrong? Followed the very terrible instructions (just a few pics on the bag) and the extremely fast video which I had to watch 10x again and again to put it together. I’m a mechanical engineer and it was very difficult to follow. As can be seen in the video, there is no soft close as the “soft close” which can be adjusted with the Allen key only works until the final 1-2” and then it slams shut. It’s too much work to take it all apart and send it back to Amazon so I’m not going to request a refund. But a very annoying purchase and I would advise against it. Unless someone can tell me what I’ve done wrong and how I make this work? (Please help)
