He-Man and She-Ra: A Complete Guide to the Classic Animated Adventures

This is a book that has been over 30 years in the making - literally! Pretty much anything you could possibly ask for in an episode guide is included in this wonderful tome. Each thick, beautifully laid-out page contains an episode synopsis, memorable quotes from the episode, the cast of characters who appear in the episode, deleted scenes, trivia, episode title/air date/production number, bonus information, and, of course, reviews! Whew! On top of all of this, there is also animation cels, production sketches, background paintings, and never-before-seen artwork to make an already invaluable guide even better. My heartfelt thanks and eternal gratitude go out to James Eatock, Robert Lamb, Alex Hawkey, DarkHorse Books and everyone involved in the production of this incredible book. From the very first page you will know how much love and dedication went into the making of this work. Not only is the information spot-on, but it carries a real sense of care and humor in each of the author's reviews and captions. Every page acts as a reminder to why we love He-Man, She-Ra and their universe so dearly. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. If I were able to, I'd give this ten-stars - easily. I have always considered myself to be a huge Masters of the Universe / Princess of Power fan, but even I found something new on every page! If you are a fan of He-Man, or if you just enjoy a magnificently constructed guide to the world of one the 80's most iconic products, then you owe it to yourself to pick this book up. Trust me, if you are reading this review then I know you have some working knowledge of He-Man and She-Ra. Get this book, you will not regret it.

I owned the original self-published "Unofficial" version of this book, and it was a great read full of thorough episode breakdowns and trivia. I'm happy to say that this version of the book, now an "Official" publication, is a huge improvement over an already fantastic experience. If you're the sort of person who loves the old He-Man and She-Ra cartoons from the 80's, AND you like to get a little behind the scenes info about shows, then you'll no doubt like this book. Besides being an impressively solid hardcover that looks great on your shelf, it covers episode breakdowns, character appearances, voice actors, animation re-use, original air dates in multiple markets, all of the post-episode morals which were a cornerstone of the He-Man cartoon, and plenty more. A LOT of content here for the price.

Dark Horse has been knocking it out of the park with the series of He-Man and She-Ra companion books. James Eatock is well known in fandom as an expert on 80's animation and pop culture. He is the publisher of a fantastic fanzine called Cereal Geek and is an authority on He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. I was thrilled when I found out he was authoring this book. He has contributed to the other Dark Horse MOTU books. This volume is a complete and total recap of every single episode of the two classic animated series. It has character breakdowns, episode over view, reused animation, trivia and more. Stills from the show, production art, script pages and even examples of the cell animation. If you ARE a fan of the Masters of the Universe and Princess of Power, it's an absolute must. If you WERE a fan and remember the shows from when you were a kid, it's a fantastic glimpse in to your childhood. I promise you'll want to go out and buy the DVDs so you can watch them again.

Overall a tremendous purchase for MOTU fans. In fact, it's very close to being essential. I love the layouts, variety, and commentary. It makes re-watching episodes a treat (because you have the series on disc, right?). My only critique is the amount of space given to the "Same-as" sections, which detail animations that are reused throughout the series. If you're familiar with Flimation, you know this is a common technique they used to save on their production cost. In some cases it's interesting, but it gets redundant quickly. I would have enjoyed more commentary or other episode specific "fun facts." A minor complaint in an otherwise terrific product.

This book is huge, being close to 1.75" thick, containing 590 pages. It is 12.25" H x 9" W in size. It's a heavy book. The binding seems to be strong and hold, but only time will tell if the binding will not be strong enough for continued viewings. This book has summaries and additional information from each episode from Season 1 and 2 from He-Man, and from Season 1 and 2 from She-Ra. See my pictures. There is a short 4-page section at the end of the book, that gives short summaries of episodes that had been approved, but were never made/produced. There are many sketches in pencil and in color, of characters and environments. The end also has a nice 1-page description of Lou Scheimer. The pictures I uploaded show the variety of types of pages included in this book.

If you are a He-Man/She-Ra fan you've probably already ordered this book. If you haven't - DO IT. There's no more exhaustive tome that covers everything and brother I mean pretty much everything from these two series. Still reading it, but flipping through it I don't see anything related to Adventures of He-Man, the latter series right before they stopped making episodes for a decade or so. Amazing behind-the scenes artwork, stories about things that wound up on the cutting room floor, and hey...just what DID Orko look like without that hat? Fair warning, do some weight training before it arrives...this sucker is massive!

Tons of information very well written and with great pictures. Had to exchange minw due to a minor dent. It is huge!

Een erg omvangrijk boek over He-man en She-Ra, aka The Masters of the Universe. Dé series uit de jaren '80 van de vorige eeuw. Erg goed naslagwerk, duidelijke afbeeldingen, goede informatie en ook nog eens mooi vormgegeven. Superleuk boek voor de fans!

James Eatock, one of the people behind the He-Man, She-Ra episode review website and author of an unofficial guide to He-Man and the Masters of the Universe has produced this wonderful book, an official guide to all 223 episodes from both He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (130) and She-Ra: Princess of Power (93), as well as every special, including the infamous 'Christmas Special'. Everything by Filmation is here. As well as episode synopsis, quotes and comparisons in animation to other episodes. You also get (from James' personal collection) artwork from the show, including storyboards and early concept designs. With the help of a few other fans of the shows, James has put together what is the most in-depth based guide that you're ever going to get of these shows and possibly the most comprehensive cartoon guide ever. :) If you are a fan of Filmation's He-Man and She-Ra, you owe it to yourself to buy this book. It's huge, but well worth the price for all the stuff you get in this sensational book, plus it answers a question that some Masters of the Universe fans have been wondering about? It reveals what Orko really looks like under his hat, but you're going to have to buy this book to see for yourself. ;) A must buy, that's for certain. :)
