They are thicker, less likely to tear and cheaper. I use them for garbage cans anyway so they are always on hand. Take off the pan rim (if there is one) and put entire pan in the trash bag. Pat it down and add litter. Put on rim. When disposing litter, take off rim and peel back trash bag so that all litter is inside the bag and dispose. **Q: What is the height of the back wall?** A: I measured 10 3/4 tall. Granted you need to scoop vs it being layer and not having to scoop as all. Overall we are very please as the kitten is using it and not leaving a mess of litter all over the floor when he goes to cover it or jumps out which is the best part of this unit.
