Rotring makes some of the great mechanical pencils and this 600 doesn't miss a beat. Sturdy and solid construction and hexgonal barrel. Satisfying click. It has a fixed lead sleeve unlike the rapid pro models. So got to be careful in handling this one. My only irk is that it's quite expensive for a mechanical pencil but at the same time if you take care of it this one will last forever.

Each of their 600 series mechanical pencils are almost made entirely out of brass, so you can really feel the 600 in your hands which is a really nice touch and for around $20 it is an incredible value. Whether you're writing or sketching, you can count on the Rotring 600 to deliver a top quality experience every time! The 600 series comes in four colors: black, red, silver and blue with and also comes in 0.5mm and 0.7mm thickness. The textured grip helps to keep your fingers from sliding during long writing sessions and the smooth barrel feels comfortable in hand. The weight is noticeable in your hands but it is not heavy by any means and for those who want to feel their writing instruments in their hands, this is a no-brainer. Check out the Rotring 600 series of mechanical pencils, they are definitely worth checking out.

The Rotring 600 has been widely touted as the best mechanical drafting pencil. For me it is excellent and definitely in my top 3. It comes down to the feature set you want or value. Build quality and precision of the mechanism are top notch. This is a pencil you can pass to your kids. At this price and with the red finish, it's a steal. Very satisfied.

Best pencil ever, bough 2 other with different colors

Just buy it. If you are to the point where you are reading the reviews for this pencil, just buy it. Trust me. I am an engineer and use a pencil daily. I swap between the Rotring 600 and a Pentel Orenz (both 0.5mm) daily. A quality mechanical pencil is a massive step up from the lower end products we have all used before. The build quality of the Rotring 600 is, in my opinion, flawless. It looks sharp, feels very nice to hold, has a nice weight to it, and it will last you forever. I have two, one black and one red, and will probably add a few more to my collection at some point. They are that good. One thing you should know is that the metal tip of this pencil does not retract. I believe the 800 has a retractable tip. If you drop this pencil, it is very possible that you could bend the tip. I have not had this happen with my Rotring, but I did have it happen to my 0.3mm Pentel Orenz Nero (makes me sad to this day as that is also a fantastic pencil). Just be mindful and this should not be an issue.

This is my favourite mechanical pencil. Form that follows function. The weight is on the heavy side (which I personally like a lot) but it's very well balanced. Every detail is designed with function in mind and serves a purpose. It's a drafting pencil, but as I don't do much drafting nowadays I enjoy writing with it. The only flaw in the design is the tip, which is very sensitive and even a small fall destroys it. There's a version with retractable tip, but it's more wobbly, and not as stable. I wish Rotrinng made a simple cap for the 600 pencil. It would make it perfect.
