Do not use if the battery casing was mangled Review: Great for older computers. - I used this in my very old AST 286 computer. Works as expected! Clock is retaining settings again. Review: Perfect for keeping an aged Packard Bell Legend 610 Running - I recently acquired an old Packard Bell Legend 610 486 computer. Amazingly, the previous owner had the original Varta 3.6v battery replaced, but un-amazingly the replacement was beginning to leak. Thankfully this PB400 model had the option to use an external battery (I was not going to disassemble the computer to de-solder the existing battery and replace it only to have to do it all over again) and this TL-5242/W was truly 'plug and play'. I simply snipped the old battery out, changed jumper settings, and plugged this in. All with power physically disconnected, of course. It works. Now I no longer have to worry about the old battery leaking and destroying the motherboard, but I am not losing hours of time each day.

Great for vintage computers!
I've purchased several of these batteries for vintage motherboards that have external battery connectors/headers. They are a perfect alternative/replacement for the older soldered on NiCad and lithium batteries. They come with a pre-attached piece of velcro so they can be safely mounted far away from your motherboard.

It works
Hooked it up to a 1995 Pentium motherboard to replace the soldered-on CMOS battery, works just fine.

Does what it is supposed to.
Worked great for my Varta replacement on an old 386 board. I just had to drill out the blocked center hole in the connector.
