Not sure about your specific question. Generally, a lower degree thermostat is so that the engine runs cooler. In my case, I did some modifications to my car and wanted it run cooler. The cooler it runs the more dense air you can put into the cylinder. The more dense the air the bigger the explosion = more power. The flip side... there is slightly more wear in the cylinders the cooler the engine runs. If this is more of a commuter car, I'd go 180.
