The item that I received had a lot of dust on it so I suspect it was sitting in the warehouse for long time! However, the item itself feels sturdy and well-built. Plastics are of good thickness and quality. The reel operation is fairly smooth as well so packing up of the item after use is easy. The splash covers can be a bit of a fiddle as they were quite stiff and required fair bit of force to close it. But mind your fingers when you apply pressure as you can pinch the skin off your fingers if you are like me!! In all, sturdy item that I hope will stand the test of time.

I needed a reliable and safe way of getting electricity into the garden to enable the running of a pond. The extention lead that comes supplied with the box is ideal as it has a 10m length of cable, at the moment I need to use the cable through a window and I am still able to lock my window which is reassuring. The box itself holds the 4 plug extension and holds each cable in place, although quite stiff to get each cable into each slot, once in they are held securely and safe from water entering. Before ordering I read in the reviews that hinge had broken, so far I have had to unlock and lock the hinge quite a few times and it does feel like it could break it has been absolutely fine, it may be more brittle in winter but only time will tell but for now it actually feels like a good strong hold once locked and thanks to the length of cable I am able to position the box in a sheltered area so is fairly protected from the weather, I will eventually get it mounted onto a wall so it is not left sitting on the floor. So far I am very pleased with this box and extension lead and feel the pond equipment is safe from the elements.

The first thing people should realise is that this is NOT waterproof, and not claimed to be, by the manufacturer. It is rated IP54, which means it has "Limited protetcion against dust ingress", and protected against "water splashes from any direction" . This is the exact wording from the IP54 definitions. Some people interpret that to mean that it is "weatherproof". But the word "proof" might mean different things to different people - eg will it remain safe to use (or dry internally) in a light shower vs an all-day sustained downpour . This is meant for TEMPORARY use outdoors. Of course you might get away with using it in ways it is not designed for, but at least understand what you are doing. As an extension cable it is great quality. It seems sturdy and well-made. Just remember to clkose the caps over the sockets and if there is a light shower while it is in use or sitting waiting to be used, you should have no problem.
