What is the difference between this and the quart plus?

Though it does not say so, this appears to be the gourmet whip plus. You can tell because of the red color and in the description it states that it can be used for hot and cold applications. The model lower has black detailing and is only for cold applications. The model above this one is the thermo whip plus. It does have the red coloring but has a slightly stouter appearance because of the thicker walls. The thermo whip plus is different because it is insulated like a thermos and will keep the contents hot or cold for hours without refrigeration or a hot water bath. I hope this helps.

Is it possible to get the container (bottom part) separately? I like the size of this one, but I see myself wanting a smaller one on occasions

I don't know if you can buy the canister part separately, but I believe you can get the complete product in different sizes. Thus, perhaps when the time comes you can simply buy another one of a smaller size.

ISI Gourmet Whip-Quart, Brushed Stainless Steel I first read about this whip on [...] where they used the whip to infuse booze with fruits, herbs and spices. Of course it makes great whipped cream, which you can enhance by adding a liqueur. The other use is to put, for example, orange zest and vodka into the whip, screw in an N20 charger, iSi N2O Cream Chargers, 24-Pack shake it for a minute, then unscrew and put in another charger. Let it sit for a couple of minutes and then vent the gas. Pour off the liquid through a tea strainer and voila! - your friends will be amazed with your now-infused alcohol for custom cocktails. Love this product!
