Best Curling Iron Ever!
I used several curling iron, curling rolls and the wand but none of them can give me the long lasting beautiful curls. At the end, my hair was damaged and dried out like straw. Not even mentioned my hair turned straight within 2 hours. I've heard about a lot of good feedback of Hot Tools Curling Iron from online and my friends, which made me want to try it. After done some research online, I decided to give the Hot Tools Marcel Curling Iron a try. It's a little bit hard to learn how to use it properly at the first place if you never use a Marcel curling iron, like me. It's quite different from the regular Spring curling iron. I saw a few negative feedback regarding the Spring needs to be replaced after 4-6 months use. I don't want to take a chance. The beautiful curls lasted more than 24 hours when I just use the medium high heat (370 F). Plus, I DID NOT use any holding spray! The only product I put on my hair is the heat protector spray before curl my hair! After I wash my hair, I can feel my hair is a little bit dry but not as bad as other curling irons did to my hair. After I deep condition my hair, it feels soft and shining again. I cannot go back to other Curling Iron. This one is a bit heavier than my other curling irons. I will look into other different sizes of the Hot Tools Curling Iron. My suggestion is always try to test from the lowest heat and slowly goes up to find out which heat level is the best for your hair and holding the curls because every one's hair is different. Always, always use a heat protector spray before start to curling your hair. Do NOT curl the hair while it's still damp unless you want to burn your hair off. BTW, I am not a professional hair stylist but I love to find a great curling tool which I believe I finally found one this time. I am happy with my purchase!

Best On The Market
This is the best curling iron I have found. The Marcel handle isn't for everyone but for those of us that can handle it, it gives excellent maneuvering. This is my second one. The handle always breaks before the curling iron. I have to replace it about every 4 years but I always buy it again.

Don’t recommend the 1 1/2”
I’ve used this brand and a Marcel-type iron since I was a hair dresser many, many years ago. I find them superior because unlike a snap-clip traditional iron, you are only heating smaller a portion of the hair at one time. With a conventional iron you wind from the bottom up in which case the ends of your hair get hot first and stay that way until the heat perpetrates through to the upper layers. The ends of the hair are the most fragile and yet they see the most heat. A Marcel does take practice though. They are easy for me except.,.. The reason I gave this 1 1/2” three stars is the weight balance on the large iron is way off. It’s far too heavy at the end making it difficult to swivel. The handle is also loose side to side. I found myself having to put in a ton of hair, twisting the iron not the handle, and then holding with two hands just to keep it stable. And…see above. Not the point of this style iron. Also the curls do not hold which I’ve never had issues with. (This might be due to the size??’) My last iron from Hot Tools corroded oddly in a year or so. I thought it was a fluke . It’s sad because the iron I had before that one lasted probably 10 years. I don’t know what’s happened to the brand but I’ll be trying a another.

Short. Better for styling other people's hair than your own.
My stylist recommended this iron to me. I never had a marcel before but watched a YouTube video and decided it was easy enough to learn. Very easy to handle if you want to use it on someone else, but if you are trying to curl your own hair away from your face, it feels like the handle is on the wrong side; you have to use your thumb instead of your fingers and it's awkward. Leaving that aside, I love the way it rolls in your hand. Curling is super fast once you've clamped. The heat seems right (low heat is truly low, unlike some other brands). But my one disappointment is how short the barrel is. The same brand makes a 2" extended barrel iron that I think would have been a better match for me, but at twice the price, I am hesitant. I would buy the marcel version of that if it were available. The awkward handle is nothing compared to that sweet rolling action.
