Can I use just the dc power wihtout the batery?

YES , it can work with the AC adapter ,without any battery .

Which other batteries will it accept? I have a couple Panasonic batteries from cameras I no longer use.

I believe only Sony. I actually recommend the Sony AA pack adapter, then use 6 rechargeable AAs.

Does it come with batteries?

It does now. Mine came with one battery and charger. (05-19-2019))
