This is not leak-proof just leak resistant which the ad does not claim it to be leak-proof so I was not surprised at all by this. This being the only negative that I can find to this great mug. It keeps it hot enough for the length of time I need it and if it gets cold I can throw it in the microwave which I love... can't do that with a metal one and it keeps it hot about as long as a metal one does anyway. It's super easy to clean, no gunk buildup around the mouth piece because it's super easy to clean and honestly I like how it feels in my hands & it fits beautifully in my "too shallow of a cup holder" because the rubber part squishes slightly so it molds into it so it doesn't fall out like all the other travel mugs I've had in the past.
