Aquila AQ-96 Guilele Strings – 1 Set of 6 – New Nylgut, Superior Tone, Gut-Like Sound, Stable Tuning, Smooth Playability

These strings are the perfect compliment to the Yamaha Guitalele GL-1 especially if you want A to A tuning. You can play strings 1-4 just like a low G Ukulele or you can play all 6 strings just like guitar 5th position because that is exactly what it is. A 6 string ukulele is an entirely different instrument. These strings tune well and sound great, a nice rich tone. Remember to tune slowly to allow the strings to stretch. Nylgut like nylon strings will stretch based on humidity, temperature and tension. I tune 1 octave lower then allow time to stretch. The wound strings generally hold their tension longer. If you try to tune it too quickly the strings might break. Make sure you always have some give in the string before you tighten it more. The strings are not labeled but wound strings are the top bass strings, thick to thin from top to bottom and the unwound nylgut strings are the treble strings 3 to 1 also thick to thin. You can tell the thickness by sight. Most importantly, make sure you are tuning to the correct octave to avoid breaking the strings: A2, D3, G3, C4, E4, A4, for standard tuning. Try guitar beads on the bridge if you have trouble tying the bridge knots. The strings are all white so they make a nice contrast against the fingerboard. They ar not squeaky at all so positioning is clean. The price is right for these quality strings.

I’ve been putting these on a Yamaha Guitalele GL1. I’ve tried 2 other brands of guitalele strings and these blow the others away by far. Bought the GL1 for my daughter but with these strings on it I cannot put it down. The tension is just about perfect and really makes the little instrument sound fantastic. Other strings sounded like a cheap toy with the high strings buzzing. On my 3rd pair of these and will keep using. Getting about 4-6 months out of a pair but I am playing them daily. Worth the price for sure.

Maybe it's just me. But while they're nice strings and installed easily, they seemed to stretch and stretch when tuning them to standard ADGCEa on a Kala guilele. Would not hold tune and I feared they'd break, after reading another review. In EADGBe guitar tuning they're fine, but fairly dark and mellow compared to the previous strings, probably in part because this is not the correct tuning/tension.

Better sound and less tuning stretch than nylon strings. There aren't many choices for guitalele but these are best I have found so far.

Excellent sound at a great price! These sound way better on my Guitalele than the factory brand. Highly recommend! They feel so nice and they woke my instrument up!!! Will buy again soon!

It could be how the strings were designed I'm not 100% sure but they are a lot more dull and dampered than the strings that came with my instrument. They seem pretty nice though otherwise and I can still play all the songs I want to and it doesn't sound like garbage. Only time will tell if these are actually good strings but I think they're pretty decent. The tone is probably designed. I just didn't read the listing correctly or something. Either way I'm probably just going to have to go to a real store with real human beings and use their knowledge to get something far better. At least now I don't have a broken string though. Lolo stay cute like me!
