**Q: How hot is extra hot? do you have to immediately drink water after a bite, that kind of hot?**
A: Not hot at all. Our batch we made was very mild. Switching back to SB Hot curry mix which you can feel the heat.

**Q: how many calories in one packet.**
A: I just checked my packet. The calories per serving = 110, and the packet calculates each serving as 1/12th of the packet. 110 x 12 = 1320. Hope that helps.

**Q: do you chop or slice the onions,  I used to eat at coco ichiban in japan and never saw any onions?**
A: Slice and sauté in butter in frying pan first. I grew up in Japan eating curry there. I also fry meat in butter. Then I put them all in slow cooker with carrots and later potatoes and cook.  After all the veges are cooked like an hour before dinner, I turn it up and put busted curry in there.

**Q: How much water would you suggest for getting thicker consistency? 5 cups of water with vegetables ends up with a watery soup. Looking for ideas ty!**
A: 5 cups seem a bit much.  I never measure water.  I put a lot of vegetables & meat and put enough water to cover them. If your soup is too thin, put more curry in there.  For a big batch I use 2 boxes.

We've been making curry using these packs for a few years, and it's a weeknight staple. We look forward to Japanese curry days. Tip 1 - dissolve better: We grate the spice cube into the curry for better distribution and to prevent a large undissolved chunk from hiding in between the vegetables. Tip 2 - reduce sodium intake: By grating the cube, you can use less water in the curry and still get it to dissolve well. This way, you can make the curry into a thicker sauce, which requires fewer cubes to flavor the same amount of vegetables and protein. This way you reduce the amount of calories and sodium in the final dish, without sacrificing flavor. For two people we can get away with using only 2-3 cubes (4 in a pack), and we keep the remainder in the fridge in a zipper bag for next time. Tip 3 - Spice level: This curry is not spicy for our taste, no matter which of the options you get (mild/spicy/extra hot, etc). We use them interchangeably! To add spice, we just use cayenne pepper to taste. Have fun in the kitchen!
