That is a good question. For information on a seller's return policy, we would advise reaching out to the seller directly. Do I need batteries ?

U may! Mine came completely dead! Wouldn't turn on at all

We will be happy to provide that information. This thermometer is manufactured in China. If you have any other questions or need assistance, please email our support team at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com and we will be happy to assist you.

Should the rapid-read unit come with a 2-piece case? Last one I bought had a plastic sheath and a cap, but this one just has the sheath.

We will be happy to provide that information. We do not have 2 piece thermometer cases that would come with the unit. It will be a single socket case that protects the screen and neck. If you have any other questions or need assistance, please email our support team at SocialSupport@helenoftroy.com and we will be happy to assist you.
