Once Upon a Time in China: The Complete Films (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray]

I was so glad to get this boxset. I enjoyed all the movies from this series and the book was a great addition to this release! Thanks Criterion!

I'm a long time fan of both old school and new school martial arts movies this includes both shaw brothers and golden harvest. This is a really great golden harvest collection but for those who don't know if you're a big fan of Jet Li he's unfortunately only in the first 3 films as the lead other than that minor disappointment still a great collection 2 own

I love this set. As some reviewers already mentioned, it contains the six movies. Both picture ans sound have bien remastered. The set contains also a booklet and a lot of bonus. The navigation in the disks is a bit tricky but there are English subtitles.

For some reason the Amazon listing and even the actual packaging feel somewhat incomplete and confusing. To be clear, this collection does includes all 6 films in the series, including the final film, Once Upon a Time in China and America. Despite it not being listed (implying that part 6 is included as almost an afterthought) the film itself is presented on its own disc with just as much care as the other titles. As expected from Criterion, the image quality, transfers, and restoration are excellent overall. With the weakest entry being part 4 which has a surprising amount of film scratches and dust visible considering it is a Criterion release. That said, All of the films in this collection look and sound excellent! To my knowledge this is the first non-import region 1 release of part 4 and 5, so it's great to have all the film together in one complete package! I don't ever care for the trifold style cardboard packaging used in collections like this, but it's a mild complaint. Overall, this is an awesome release!

Over all great purchase, great quality.

What can I say but that the criterion collection did what they always do which is do a fantastic job. One of my favorite all time film series brought to new life with much improved subtitles, picture quality and a ton of great extras. Even if you have this entire series from older releases you should absolutely invest in this new criterion collection set.

Six movies! Excellent choice by Criterion. This series single-handedly opened my eyes to the joys of king fu films, and led me to the further wonders of Asian cinema and culture.

Classic films with solid stories and a whole lot of action!!!

Finally I we have a complete collection of this franchise. The only thing is, you'll need a region A or region free bluray player, it's a shame that Eureka or 88 films didn't get hold of this first. Also this set doesn't have the English Dub track. Apart from all that this is a fantastic set and worth having for any collector. This transfer is amazing, but the audio on this set is a big let down and isn't as good as the Eureka set but worth having anyway for collectors. I would highly recommend.

昨年のブルース・リ－BOXに続いてクライテリオンがまたやってくれました！90年代を代表する香港クンフ－映画シリ－ズ６作品ここに登場です。1~3作目は4Kレストア、4~6作目は2Kレストアとなっており、現在の日本版ソフトより断然画質が良くなっています。因みに4・5作目は十数年前にワ－ナ－からDVD化の告知があったにも関わらずドタキャンされた過去があったのでとりあえず一安心。以前VHSとLDの時代に4作目はTVサイズにトリミングされていたので初めてスコ－プサイズで鑑賞出来て良かった。音声は6作目以外はモノラルが主体になっていますが1・2作目は地味な効果ながらステレオ音声も収録、3作目は多分初めてのオリジナルステレオ音声を収録。だけどこの時期の香港映画のドルビーステレオはあまり良い音声ではなかったと思います。成龍のレッド・ブロンクスもドルビーデジタルだったけどアメリカ版と比べたら香港版は音響が悪かったですもん。話がそれましたが６作目には日本版では収録されていない北京語が収録されておりジェット・リ－本人の声で台詞を聴けますよ。特典ではツイ・ハ－クのインタビューや黄飛鴻のドキュメント等を収録。私の様なマニアには堪らない内容になっています。くれぐれも注意をして頂きたいのですが商品説明の箇所に字幕ありとありますが、アメリカ版ソフトなので英語字幕の事ですので間違えないで下さいね。

6枚あるディスクの中で、”ChinaⅢ”の3枚目が再生出来ない。ディスクが途中で止まるからである。天下のクライテリオンの商品なので、大丈夫だと思っていたが誤りであった。やはり、アメリカらしいええかげんな商品だった。泣き寝入りするしかないのだろうか？
