Will the medium sized riser hold a 5-1/2 lb glass figurine?

I wouldn’t try putting anything heavy on the stand. Since there is no support in the middle, it might bend downwards.

Can it withstand the weight of say, 3 to 4 candles?

Candles come in all different sizes, from birthday candles, to large jarred candles; to which size are you referring? These are relatively small, and will bow in the center under a great deal of weight.

Exactly what I needed

While these are on the smaller side, they're perfect for my purposes (displaying miniature collectibles). They feel pretty durable, in case one takes an unexpected tumble off a shelf. For the price, I could do a lot worse.
