The polycarbonate material is thicker and more durable than a cheap plastic cup that would easily shatter. It has a nice big handle and pour spout. My only complaint is that they put texture in the material right where the scale resides (visible in photos), which actually makes it hard to read at certain angles. I'm going to be pouring motor oil, so tiny variances are not going to matter.
