Does this item come with extra lens?

No. Only the helmet in the box.

I get that I'm a noob, but shouldn't this helmet darken when looking at the sun? This is after I've let it sit to charge in the sun for a while.

when looking at the sun, cover all 4 sensors and then very quickly uncover them and it should darken up

Would this work for stick overhead occasionally?

Yes, this works great for stick, TIG, and MIG. Works great for all applications.
