The window had a screen, so I could literally put it between the screen on the outside and the window. Within about two weeks the dog stopped barking when it was on our side of the house, however, it did bark some when it was on the other side of the neighbor's house (out of range). So it definitely did help a bit. It worked some on the yappy annoying older dog on the other side, but not well on their young and highly stupid dog. Then again, their electric fence didn't work on that dog either. It can and will bark at anything it damn well pleases. Shouting at him, throwing snowballs and such at him only emboldens him to bark more. When I plugged this in, he started barking, pausing briefly upon hearing the device go off, and then in a attempt to apparently drown out the annoyance, barked even louder and longer than normal.
