Very good light for the price
This has good quality. The controls are nice in that you don't have to hit the button more than once to get the desired brightness because it stays set at that. You have to hold for 0.5s to turn it on with momentary pushes changing the intensity. It is very bright on the highest settings, shining well over 100 yards. The battery life is several hours on the lowest settings. The beam is moderately wide, allowing for a good field of view so you don't feel like you're looking down a tunnel. The base is hard plastic which isn't the best, but for the money, it is certainly good. This is only worn for about 45 minutes at a time when doing night-time chores, so cant' vouch for comfort during longer wear times. Detaching from the base is a nice feature but it would be better if the lamp case was magnetic. This feature is mainly meant for attaching to a hat, which I have not tried. This has been used for over a year without issue. Remember to remove the piece of plastic from the battery terminal before the first charge.

Fantastic headlamp for running
I'm a 4 season runner and I run early in the morning. That means for almost half my year I'm running in the dark. For this year, I wanted a headlamp that could last a full hour for my run. This does the job and then some. Lightweight, nice fit, solid construction, and rechargeable. The lowest light setting works perfectly fine - I can illuminate the sidewalk in front of me without issues allowing me to avoid some of the things that would literally trip me up in the past. The lowest setting also has several hours of battery life which is great. Then there are progressively higher settings (including a red light) which I have yet to use. It's good to know they're there but like I said, the lowest setting works just fine in the pitch black if you're just looking to illuminate the 15-20 feet in front of you.

So close to being the one.
This headlamp is super bright, super lightweight, and the addition of a red light is awesome. I also love the 16340 battery and wish it were common among other brands. The only caveat is the narrow beam angle. I love Fenix lights. I've been a *mostly* loyal customer since the LD-20 (circa 2010). They are bomb proof and feature rich. They stand by their warranty and have replaced many straps and clips for me without complaint. I recommend them to everyone. I've been using an HL-50 for years, and bought my wife the first version of the HM50R. The new batteries produce so much more light than AA's for less weight, so it made sense to eventually upgrade. The addition of the red light was super attractive as a backpacking headlamp, and being able to share batteries with the HM50R v1 is a really nice perk. The construction is solid and the bulb strength super impressive. The only problem is the beam angle is so narrow that walking through a dark forest feels like being in a tunnel. I really, really wish they had something to compensate for that, like a snap-on diffuser. I'm going to try building one myself. I want to love this headlamp, but it gets less use than I had hoped. I ended up buying a Nitecore UT27 Pro (800) with the hope of having spotlight / floodlight / red light options, and it has become my primary headlamp. But that, too, also has its weird quirks (see my review). I'm still looking for ways to bring the HM50-R back to the throne, and I hope the v3 will consider the new issues brought about by the v2. If you aren't moving quickly through large, dark areas, then this is a great product. It's just not perfect for my needs.

Excellent around the house, car, dark closets, under sinks
I got sick and tired of the cheap janky headlamps I had been trying over the years, either clunky huge or poor light output. I finally bought a Fenix HM70R back in October. What a freaking difference. Massive light output for hours. I did a repair on my car in a poorly lit garage it took a half a day, and I wore it nearly the entire time. Excellent illumination and is not annoying to wear. I bought this Fenix HM50R last week, and I am impressed with the light output and it is smaller than the HM70R . Comfortable adjustable headband, so easy to turn on and off. Fantastic lighting. I am taking the HM50R to work. Best of all, the Fenix headlamps are rechargeable!!

Great Headlamp! Great Customer Service!
This is my favorite headlamp and I've owned dozens of different brands. I own two of these and use them for my Home Inspection business because I need a really bright headlamp which this one is. This was the first headlamp that I've owned that malfunctioned within a few months of purchase. I submitted a warranty repair to Fenix Corp. Evidently, there are also wholesale distributors that sell this product on Amazon so they directed me to the appropriate distributor for repair. The customer service was great and they emailed me several days after they received my headlamp at their facility and emailed me that since parts to repair this headlamp would take too long, they shipped me a new one. I got it about a week to week and a half after I sent it back to them. Super happy! Pros: -The headlamp strap has this super grippy rubbery strip that holds the headlamp in place on my head. -It has 4 brightness levels and the highest setting is super bright. -The headlamp has a clip and can be removed from the strap so I can attach it to almost anything. -The batteries are rechargeable...can be recharged by plugging a USB-C directly into the headlamp. I ordered extra batteries and some of the batteries actually have their own charging port, Micro-USB so I can use different methods of charging Cons: None I've found so far :)

Worth it!
Compact Hugh quality strong material (aluminum) Lightweight. Not heavy on head. Easy to operate. The light is powerful for a small head lamp 4 levels of brightness (turbo very bright but drains battery fast) Flashing RED 🔴 LIGHT !!!! ( huge plus) Low mode red 🔴 light. ( few brands have this) USB-C charging universal (no more searching for particular brand charger) Charging time about 90 minutes. Detachable !!!! (HUGHE positive) Rain resistant No magnetic base though. I will buy another for my car. ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ RECOMMENDED TO FENIX: Please don’t change this model. It’s perfect!

Perfect for mechanics
I love this light. Quality and output of the light ia great. Controls are intuitive once you get the hang of it. Love that it can unclip to be a flashlight. Although, the clip is really tight, so I bent mine out to relax it, making it far easier to clip and not rip clothing too. Band is very comfortable and no slipping at all with the silicone strip inside it. I epoxied a magnet on the bottom (that it really should have already!) and its now the perfect light. Having a magnet also lets me magnetize any tool or bolt I need too! If im switching between two socket sizes, I can hold one on the magnet so i dont have to waste time looking for it. Great for small screws too. Highly recommend the light to everyone. Modify

Light, bright, good headband.
Surprisingly small, light, and bright. Amazing hotspot and fill. Battery life, is short, especially in weather under 0°C. I’m talking 90 minutes on low.

Beste Stirnlampe, die ich je hatte. Absolute Kaufempfehlung. Besser geht es nicht und von einem deutschen Hersteller.

DISAPPOINTED
The lamp worked when I bought it, but the highest brightness level was accompanied by a very high temperature so it was dangerous from the start, a few months ago the product stopped working, it seems to be that lampi kill the battery because when I measure the battery voltage it is very low. Now the product is useless, I am so disappointed, what a waste of money, I would not buy anything from this company again.
