I thought it would be slightly larger and come down more on both sides but you can see in the pictures the 2016 F150 tailgate is pretty thick. I'm assuming some other trucks or smaller trucks have a thinner tailgate. Anyway it still protects my surfboard and keeps it from sliding so it does what it's advertised to do.

Reliable and easy to use - just needs a little more padding I’ve used this Surfboard Truck Rack about half a dozen times now with two paddle boards, and it’s honestly done a great job. It’s easy to set up, stays put on the tailgate, and the silicone‑covered buckles really do prevent scratches—huge relief there. Overall, it’s been solid and has served its purpose exactly the way I hoped it would. If I could change anything, I’d add a bit more padding. Even an extra quarter inch of thickness would make it feel a little more cushioned, especially when hauling heavier boards. I’d also love to see the pad length extended by about 2.5 to 3 inches for a bit more coverage. But as it is, it works well, it’s straightforward to use, and it’s held up nicely so far.

I use this every day for hauling my surfboards or other long items in my truck bed. It protects the bed trim from wax/other damage and protects the boards and other items. Straps are best quality I’ve seen.
