## Description

BN-LINK 60 Min Bathroom Fan Timer Switch for Lights Exhaust Fan, No Neutral | Spring Wound Countdown Light Switch Timer Mechanical Timer Light Switch with 1 Minute Intervals, Auto Shut Off, 20A 1HP, ETL - desertcart.com

Review: Does what it does just fine - This is just a basic time switch for lights or fans or whatever. I have two of them that I use in the bathrooms to set the fan to run during showers. They remove a lot of the humid air to make the room more comfortable and not fog the mirrors. I have bought timers before for a different home. Got the idea when a real estate agent, while showing a home for sale, turned on the fan in the bathroom. Then, forgot to turn it off. After leaving the showing, the home was empty and the fan kept running. It overheated and started a fire which caused a lot of damage. The house then could not be sold for several months due to repairs. This happened in my neighborhood and caused me to get a timer. These seem to work fine. They turn a little hard, and really hard when reducing the time set. They are new, so will likely be easier over time. They seem to run very close to the time set. I set one for 20 minutes. I check it at 18 minutes to see if it was fairly accurate. Normally the time set is not critical, just making sure it does turn off. My test resulted in the time going off just 15 seconds short of 20 minutes. More than accurate enough. I am satisfied. BTW, the white color is really white, not cream like a prior brand I tried.
Review: Works perfect for defrosting my freezer manually - Works like it should. I am manually defrosting a Danby freezer/fridge because the default factory setting goes into defrost about every hour. This freezer is fighting itself with this amount of defrosting. I think the fridge is a bad design by Danby. I disconnected the compressor red wire off of the circuit board and then connected the BN-Link timer switch between the live black "L" WIRE and the red compressor wire. Now I control when the defrost cycle happens! Tick, Tick, Tick. Update: more for my own record of what I wired where. I rewired to heater defrost wire and live 110v wire so that power goes directly to the defrost bypassing circuit board. Now when I turn on timer defrost starts instantly. I also added a push button toggle switch to turn off compressor while defrosting and it is wired into a thermostat wire (short cut) since it is just a relay interrupt. The thermostat is a add on designed for a chest freezer so that i can control the temperature. It works and gets below zero no problem.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: would this work with a small wall heater**
A: As long as the amperage of the wall heater does not exceed the rating of the timer switch. I purchased it to control the heater in a bathroom fan/heater/light combo and it works great!

**Q: Should I be concerned about connecting the aluminum wires to copper? Seems like all of these timers have aluminum leads.**
A: These timers do not have aluminum lead wires. They have stranded copper leads that have been “tinned” with silver solder to keep the strands together and improve electrical connectivity. The silver solder on the leads may fool you into mis-perceiving that they are aluminum, but still they are not.

**Q: Will this fit alongside another switch inside a two gang box?**
A: Yes absolutely will fit in a normal two-gang box. Note my older 1950-s home has some shallow boxes - it won't fit in these. On the two gang box, depending on what you're using the other side of the box for (another switch? Outlet?) you may have to buy the right face plate and then install the timer knob and time indicator over the switch hole in the face plate. Should not be tough.

**Q: can you tell me the depth of this switch? how deep does the box need to be? thanks**
A: I didnt measure so I cant give a precise answer......but I replaced a switch in a regular box (m if that helps)

with no problem

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Solid Timer Switch But With Stranded Wires
*by B***R on November 7, 2025*

If you've ever used a digital timer switch and had it fail within months (as they are apt to do), come to the other side: mechanical spring-wound switches. This solid timer switch has little that can fail. As mentioned in other reviews, the unit is large and bulky. Even in my spacious one-gang box, I had to be creative to fit the wires. But, with timers, that's normal with these switches. But one thing I really didn't like: the protective plastic film requires you to remove the switch and the bolted faceplate to remove it. And the plastic is so tightly applied to the switch that it takes a long time to remove. I was wondering why the unit has stranded wires instead of the usual copper wires. Maybe all timer switches have stranded wires? In any case, I found them challenging to deal with. The operation is amazingly easy. Just turn the knob clockwise and let it go.
