love these shoes
These shoes are fantastic. Light, form fitting and good looking. I like to mix up my runs: sometimes city streets, sometimes trail running. They are versatile for all types of conditions. They are flat enough for my joint health and they have a sticky sole that is safe in the rough. Love them.

Good light casual shoe
I wear the regular Kinvara for dedicated runs on clean surfaces. I keep a pair of Kinvara trail shoes around for casual wear, running in wet or dirty areas, and the occasional trail run. These do the job nicely, and I like that they have some less garish colors available than most current running shoes. I have worn Sauconys for 20 years, and they really work for me (high arch, stable, slightly narrow foot). Compared to other shoes, these may run a little small. Since I have been wearing Sauconys so long, they fit as I expected.

Finally
I have tried several trail shoes looking for one that was lightweight, flexible, and would hug whatever trail surface I am on. Well I finally did with this shoe. I love minimalist shoes, but the rocky terrain I run on would be much too painful with small, median, and large pointed rocks to step on. I went on a 61/2 mile trail run on this very technical terrain I mentioned and was able to go over all surfaces with no problem. Even when I stepped on the pointed rocks, I could feel them, but was able to push off without pain. The rubber under sole grips well in dirt and different rocks small to bolder size. They have just the right size and spaced groves to have an even feel and not allow small rocks to get caught in between. There is a very slight heel rise compared to the forefoot like many minimalist shoes and is as light weight as most street running shoes. The fit is very much like the Saucony Kinvara 3 with a slightly thinner sole, lower heel rise, and a tougher more durable under sole, but every bit as light. I have many more trails to try and a mud obstacle run to really test it on.Pros: Lightweight, flexible, holds foot well, great surface grip, minimalist feelCons: would prefer the front of shoe to have slightly more room to give toes to have better spacing and I have a narrow size 13 foot.

great off-road shoe!
Been running in these for about three to four months now. I did quite a bit of research before I purchased them and it paid off.My running surface is compacted dirt roads with a lot of loose rocks and 3/4" gravel. My normal running shoes are Nike Free 3.0. I love those shoes but can't use them right now b/c of the terrain. Lots of rocks were getting stuck in the splits of the sole and the padding was too soft and thin so I was getting bruises on the bottom of my feet from the rocks.Enter the Kinvara TR. Low profile just like my Free 3.0's but a nice firm outsole to protect my feet from the terrain.Fit: my normal running shoe size is 12D but a 11.5 is a good fit in theseBest for: trail roads with gravel, rocks, or other rough terrain.Pros:mud doesn't get stuck in the treads (awesome!)sole is firm enough to protect from rocks but flex enough to be comfortableminimal break-in requireddries fastwell constructedmany color choicesCons:None for nowJust ordered a second pair, half size smaller, to wear casually.

Not the same toe box as regular Kinvara
I bought these because Kinvaras are some of my favorite running shoes. But this trail Kinvara has almost nothing in common with the Kinvara road shoe. The most disappointing thing is that the toe box is pretty narrow for the trail shoe, and it causes me to get blisters if I run more than 10 miles or so (and feels uncomfortable much earlier than that). I know most trail shoes tend to be a bit narrower, but I've owned other trail shoes with a bigger toe box, and they perform well.

Good shoe tight fit
Length is good for an but a little thin on the width. Much firmer feel then the non-trail version. Good protection though and still very light weight. Good shoe but not for everyday use and can easily double as a heavier XC racing flat or trail racing flat.

Nice Ultralight Backpacking Shoe
I bought this shoe for lightweight backpacking. I've only taken it out on a few trips so far but that has ranged from snow, rocky mountain ridges, river crossing with temps from the 50's to 80's to sand, and rock in the 104 degree desert. It was awesome in everything. It's not overly rugged but still seems to handle everything I throw at it. When it gets wet it dries quickly. The fit is good for me, feels very comfortable and I have hiked all day with my pack on without my feet hurting. I should note - I did try these shoes on at a sporting goods store before ordering on Amazon for a better price. I also tried numerous other shoes and this fit my needs, my feet, and my wallet the best.

Very light, but watch it if you've got wide feet
I'm a fairly novice runner, really a cyclist that started trail running. I was running in either barefoot shoes (merrell trail gloves) for short runs or some heavy trail shoes (adidas thrashers) for longer sessions. The kinvaras nicely do the duty of both sets of shoes.Pros:Very lightweightEnough padding for comfort on longer runsMinimal drop, 4mmCons:Sizing. They fit snug, you should probably go a half size up from your normal shoe. I did, but even then the toe box is pretty narrow if you've got wider feet like I do. If in doubt, try them on in a store.Other than the sizing it's hard to find too much fault. They're a great all purpose shoe that will perform well on trails, road, short or long. They're now my only running shoe.
