Review: Why the 4K+ is the Smartest Cord-Cutting Move You’ll Make! - As a tech reviewer with a decade of experience tracking the "Streaming Wars," I’ve seen devices come and go. I’ve tested the bulky boxes, the overpriced "Pro" models, and the laggy budget sticks. If you want the absolute best "bang for your buck" in 2026, the Roku Streaming Stick 4K+ is the undisputed champion of the mid-range market. The "+" in the name is the secret sauce here. It isn't just about the stick; it’s about the Voice Remote Pro bundle. You're essentially getting the brains of a high-end Roku Ultra in a form factor that hides behind your TV. The Breakdown: Performance Meets Convenience 1. The Visuals (Dolby Vision & HDR10+): Most sticks give you 4K, but this one gives you cinematic 4K. With Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support, the contrast and color mapping are leagues ahead of standard HDR. If you have a high-end OLED or QLED TV, this stick actually does your panel justice. The blacks are deep, and the highlights don't "blow out." 2. The "Long-Range" Wi-Fi Receiver: Roku moved the Wi-Fi antenna into the power cable (the long-range receiver). This is a genius move for anyone whose router isn't in the same room as the TV. In my testing, I saw 2x faster speeds and zero buffering compared to the older "Plus" models, even through two walls. 3. The Voice Remote Pro (The Real Star): This remote is why you buy this specific bundle. Rechargeable: Stop buying AAA batteries. It charges via USB. Lost Remote Finder: Just say, "Hey Roku, find my remote," and it starts beeping from under the couch cushions. Private Listening: There is a physical headphone jack on the remote. Plug in your earbuds and watch late-night movies at full volume without waking the household. The Pros Dead-Simple UI: After 10 years, Roku’s interface remains the most user-friendly. No cluttered "recommendation" rows that take up 80% of the screen like Fire TV or Google TV. Just your apps, exactly where you put them. Universal Search: Roku is "agnostic." If you search for a movie, it tells you where it’s cheapest or free across all platforms, not just the ones that paid for priority. AirPlay & HomeKit: This is the cheapest way to get high-quality Apple AirPlay on an older TV. Casting from an iPhone or Mac is seamless. Stealth Design: It plugs directly into the HDMI port. No wires dangling under your TV, making it the perfect choice for wall-mounted setups. The Cons Home Screen Ads: Roku has increased the size of the "Sidebar Ad" recently. It’s not intrusive to the operation, but it’s there. No Ethernet Port: Unlike the Roku Ultra, you are 100% reliant on Wi-Fi. (Though the long-range receiver is excellent, some "pro" users still prefer a hardwire). HDMI Clearance: If your HDMI ports are very close together, the stick is slightly wide and might crowd the neighboring port. (Pro-Tip: Use a 3-inch HDMI extender if this happens). Overall Inputs & Final Verdict If you are deciding between the standard 4K Stick and the 4K+, spend the extra few dollars for the 4K+. The Voice Remote Pro alone is worth the upgrade. Having a rechargeable remote with a headphone jack changes your entire viewing habit. Pro-Tip for 2026: Go into the settings and set your "Customizable Buttons" (the 1 and 2 buttons on the remote) to your most-used voice commands, like "Open YouTube" or "Set Sleep Timer for 30 minutes." It makes your nighttime routine effortless. Bottom Line: The Roku Streaming Stick 4K+ is the "sweet spot" of streaming. It offers the speed and features of a flagship box with the portability and price of a stick. Whether you’re a tech-savvy power user or just want something that "just works" for the grandparents, this is the one to get.
Review: Second Roku. First Stick - So, I bought an ultra and the 4k+. I got the 4k PLUS so the remote in the bedroom would work with the ultra in the living room and is the upgraded volume control and headphone plug. Score. The cheaper two rokus do not connect to 5g and you will find your streaming spins and spins. Don't buy the 4k stick with the lower quality remote. But beware, the 4k PLUS! is hard to find except here in desertcart. I returned several to target etc when I realized none accepted 5g till I got home. **Watch for the 4K "+".**. Love the Roku tho. These are my 2nd pairs as Roku has a habit of overnight deciding to "no longer support" their devices. Never buy the lowest one marked down everywhere. They may "stop supporting" it in a few months. Which makes it dead btw. A brick. But if you have an old TV or like me, your smart tv no longer matches the upgrade desertcart or Hulu or Netflix did so you can't stream anymore, this is the PERFECT solution. Tv is fine. Planned obsolescence wants us to buy a new tv so they tweak the software enough to make our TV no longer "see" with their streaming app. But, plus roku.com has TONS of free channels and if like me, you like the old easier, less violent, slower shows of the 1990, 2000, and 2010s, get a Roku ultra or a 4kPLUS. (the sound stick seems on sale everywhere so ? How much longer Roku with support it?) Hundreds of free channels. Even some live and free. No more $200 cable bill. Plug the USB charger to the wall/suppressor, the USB to your TV won't be enough juice and most likely won't work. Just saying. Tried two different good TVs. Not sure why it's even an option. Just use the USB brick.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Whats the difference between this and the streaming stick +?**
A: Hello! The Streaming Stick 4K+ offers an upgraded remote—our best remote yet, featuring a lost remote finder, rechargeable battery, and hands-free voice controls. Otherwise, you’re looking at all the same perks, like 4K/Dolby Vision®/HDR10+ streaming, the hottest streaming channels, and 300+ Live TV channels on The Roku Channel. Happy Streaming!

**Q: Can you stream amazon prime video?**
A: Of course! Simply download the Amazon Prime Video app to your Roku player and login using your existing Amazon credentials. Happy Streaming!

**Q: If I plug this into the back of my tv, will the remote still work? (my old Roku device only responds if nothing is between it and the remote)**
A: Roku remotes work off bluetooth and do not need a basic line of sight like an infrared remote. Some TV's don't have enough power in their usb outlet to power a streaming stick. The work around is to plug the stick into a recharging power adaptor. I always bring a 6 ft. usb cable that has a male/female plug when we travel. https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Extension-Cable-Male-Female/dp/B00NH136GE/ref=sr_1_3?crid=TETC5WT33ES7&keywords=usb%2Bcable%2Bmale%2Bto%2Bfemale%2B5ft&qid=1681504304&sprefix=usb%2Bcable%2Bmale%2Bto%2Bfemale%2Caps%2C91&sr=8-3&th=1

**Q: Can still get spectrum cable?**
A: Of course! Simply download the Spectrum app to your Roku player and login using your existing Spectrum credentials. Happy Streaming!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ In most ways superior to my Firestick, but I have improvement suggestions...
*by E***E on August 24, 2023*

I have been a long-time user of the Amazon Firesticks. I have many of them at my homes and also travel internationally with one. I use a few applications and subscribe to a half dozen streaming services including Prime. There are pros and cons to the Roku compared to my prior experiences: PROS: 1. Better user interface. 2. Better integrated program guide, which is more neutral to streaming media vs. Firestick which is optimized for Amazon Prime users. For example, it works nicer with my Google systems. 3. More third-party support for add-ins and customizations. 4. Nicer remote control. CONS: 1. Not as controllable with Alexa home control system. 2. Setting up new televisions is not as convenient. Because I travel a lot, I must set up my stick with a new television as much as three times per week. The Amazon set up for this works faster. The main difference is I can control volume (and channel, but I rarely use that). I wish these systems had a more reliable way to also switch inputs on these televisions, but hotels make that complex. 3. Setting up hotel networks is not as convenient. See above about travel. The Firestick allows me to browse a hotel website to set up a connection, but the Roku forces me to connect to its internal WiFi transceiver with a separate device (like my phone) to log into the hotel network. This works but is far less convenient and slower. 4. I wish the remote had removable batteries (or a way to physically switch off the remote). Because I travel extensively when I pack the Roku sometimes it comes out of my bag with little to no battery, because something ended up pressing buttons on the remote. That's inconvenient because I have to charge the remote before I can use the Roku. With my Firestick I just remove the batteries when it travels and put them back in when I'm ready to install. 5. The charging cord is a bit unwieldy and yet somehow necessary. The Firestick was more self-contained. When I travel I notice a lot of hotels have a Google device already connected to the TV. With the Firestick I can just pull the micro USB and HDMI cables out of that device and into the Firestick. With the Roku I have to pull the USB-A end out of the power cable. Small difference, but it means I have to access more of the back panel of the TV, and often hotels do not make that easy. But, overall, I have replaced my Firestick with the Roku as my travel companion.
