This product works and is easy to use.
Purchase the big bag, because it will fill fast. I am buying 2 bags at a time. We live in a residential area. I purchased this to be able to enjoy our backyard. Despite our care at picking up dog waste and any other organic debris, flies and mosquitoes are a constant nuisance. I put this in the back far corner of my yard away from sitting areas because of reviews suggestive of smell and the instructions of the product. My SO taunted me that it wasn’t working. Within 24 hours flies were inside the bag, within 48 hours, flies are fighting to get in the bag, within 72 hours, no flies in the sitting areas of the patio, even if I am eating food. There is no detectable aroma from the product except with mild wind. Combined with the Knight Spartan mosquito attractant, I can sit outside for morning coffee and in the evening for the nightcap without being buzzed to insanity or consumed to death. This fly attractant (as the mosquito one) are economical and they work. Both are made in the USA. This product works, use it according to the very clear, easy to follow instructions. When disposing these bags DO NOT DROP OR SPILL! As other reviewers have said the smell is horrendous and does not wash off easily. I dropped my first bag and the bottom broke on the grass. Every fly in the world arrived! Even washing it down with water and soap did not abate the smell. I now double trash bag it where it is hanging and then carefully place it in the bags, tying off the top of both bags. I wait until trash pick up days to place in the garbage can.

Wow, does it ever work!
It came in at like 11, and had it hung by early afternoon. Not 2 hours later I saw the first couple of flies bite the dust...and that was just the prelude. Now 5 days later there is a dark line along the bottom of the bag that is just the pile of dead flies. I actually wish I could post a video of all the flies currently flying around inside the trap. It is absolutely the most bizarre thing I have ever seen...I have to reiterate how bad it smells. My dogs walk by and stick their noses in the air trying to figure out where the stench is coming from. The difference is amazing. We had guests over for Labor Day and I didn’t see a single fly (outside the trap). It makes me look forward to next spring to put one out and keep them down all summer long. It has even recuse the horse and deer flies though I haven’t officially seen a deer fly in the trap, I have seen a couple of horse flies. Do yourself a favor and just buy it. As for hanging it, I have found a wire coat hangar to be very useful. The first picture shows the “line of death” at the bottom. The second shows flies inside the trap. Edit: 2 months later and I have declared it dead after a cold snap. I added a third picture, it shows that the trap is full of dead flies. I have truly never seen anything work this effectively. I have already ordered and received a second trap so that when it warms next spring I can be there to get a jump on the flies! We live on several acres and our neighbor reported less flies as well - including the deer fly that harassed them on the way to their cars each morning. This is a truly awesome item.

Best fly trap ever.
This might be the best fly trap in the world. I used to get the reusable ones but honestly, they’re such a pain in the butt to clean that I decided to switch to the disposable one. Within the first hour, it had already attracted hundreds of flies. Two weeks later it is still working fantastically. It is so big there have got to be thousands of flies at this point. It stormed the last couple of days and as you can see from the picture, no additional water has gotten into the bag and flies are still swarming it. I have about 15 yards from my trashcan and back door. This is the best thing ever, and I will continue to order them in the summer months. Literally, my only warning and this should be common sense, but it does stink, so don’t put it too close to your patio area or anywhere where you’re going to be spending time

WORKS WELL BUT STINKY
I gave this 4 stars - I'd give a 5 if it didn't stink so bad if its located too close to where you sit outside. Don't even THINK about using this inside as the smell would definitely be a problem. This product appears to be very active which is great, it seems I have far fewer flies on my patio where we sit outside, so fewer to try to get into the house too where they are REALLY ANNOYING and very dirty things too. I do not like the idea of them landing anywhere in my house especially on food/fruit and so forth. While some people just ignore them as being part of summer, I guess I have a "thing" about them and the sicknesses they can carry and transmit. Anyway, also, while it is a good thing to find the times I've had occasion to see whether its working or not that indeed it is. But its REALLY GROSS to look at. My dislike/loathing of flies wins out but actually I feel rather sorry for them getting trapped in there even though they never feel sorry for me when they are pests and sometimes even bite. But I do realize that none of us chose to be what we are. Dogs don't choose to be dogs, flies don't choose to be flies. Theoretically true but ultimately ewww[...] So back to the effectiveness review. Works good and there are lots of them in there. I read the previous reviews and heeded the warnings about hanging it a distance away because of the odor. However I guess I did not place it far enough away as sometimes when its pretty hot weather or the winds in the right/wrong direction I can definitely smell it and its a pungent smell that kind of gets in my throat. So I had 2 of them hanging close together and both working (enough flies for 2) but I moved one of them a little farther away. I really didn't want to have to deal with moving it because of the ich factor but the way I hung one it was fairly easy to do. The other one is fastened in such a way as to make it more difficult to move and for that reason I have left it stay where it was. If I get up the willpower I will move it too but even moving one has improved the smell situation but not totally. So the product says that on hot days it will do better hanging in the shade and on cool days its better hanging in the sun. So I attached it to the frame of a lawn swing which is out but not in use currently so that I could slide it along to sun or shade but I wrapped wire around many times to be sure it was secure and now its going to take a little time to get it undone. So I recommend hanging it in such a way that it will come free for disposal and/or moving fairly quickly and easily. I now have it hanging from a branch of a tree further away. Be careful where you hang it that its not something you might accidentally bump into when mowing or gardening, standing up and forgetting its there because if it the contents came spilling out onto me if I bumped it I would totally be grossed out to have it spill onto me. (its not a concern its well designed just if you bumped into the bag w/o knowing is the only thing). I guess what I'm saying, carefully consider where to hang and how to hang securely but easily detachable as well for if you need to move it and/or dispose of it (in a trash bag sealed up afterward). You won't have to touch the actual contents to because its designed that way to avoid contact. its just ICCHY to look at. The fact that I bought another speaks to how I feel as to its effectiveness. Others mentioned the smell and I concur. I probably had it initially hanging about 35 feet away from my patio (my yard isn't all that big and the patio is in the center) and it really should have been about 15 or 20 feet further away. But it works and for that reason I am glad I found this item and purchased it as it makes it much easier to enjoy being outside when so many of the flies are "elsewhere". It's very easy to set up, no confusing directions so I do recommend very much this product.

Concurrently Wonderful and Disgusting
I knew I had a fly problem on my land. I had no idea every fly in the county lived here. At least that's how it looks since I got two of these fly traps. I put them on my property at 1PM yesterday and by noon today, the thing was brimming with flies, half of them dead, the other half fighting to drown themselves ASAP. And there is also a perpetual crowd of Fly Applicants, waiting outside the bag, begging for the "lucky" opportunity to get in there with the rest. I had no idea flies were this suicidal, no kidding. The bag full of flies looks like a bad horror movie. I almost gave this thing 4 stars because the thing stinks so badly. I mean it really stinks. But then I realized, it almost has to stink to attract flies, when you consider the normal fare of flies. May I warn you all not to fill it up with the water till AFTER you hang it, as spillage smells like death. It took all day for the smell to wear off my hand, even with many washes. I am serious when I tell you that this bag, when mixed with water, smells very much like Death. And that's BEFORE the flies get there. I had to spray my sneaker with fabreze just to make it bearable to be near. The smell of this stuff is that disgusting. However, if you have ever been harassed by flies, then you know what I mean when I say that the smell is STILL worth it. I don't think the two bags I bought will last through the week, they are capturing that many flies. Considering how disgusting it is, I am not looking forward to disposing of those bags. Yet, even still, it's worth it. Thus, the Title of my review: Concurrently disgusting and wonderful. At this point in the process, I try not to get too close, not only because of the smell, but because I keep thinking of that movie, The Fly -- and am afraid I will come face to face with one of those buggers and hear him yelling in a little fly voice: Help Me! Hellllppp Meee! But now that I am already classified as a mass fly murderer, I am on my way to buy two more of these bags to ensure that no descendents survive to seek revenge upon me. Given a choice, I would much prefer a product that makes flies go off and die quietly out of my sight, preferably on somebody else's land. But barring that possibility and for the sake of speed, if you've got flies and need to disposition them quickly, you need to get this bag.

Wonderful!!
I bought this after I found about twenty flesh flies in my basement. I managed to kill those off using Raid and so far I haven't had any new ones reappear but I was concerned about a re-infestation. I couldn't tell if this product worked for flesh flies from the online description (maybe it's there and I just overlooked it?) but the side of the bag itself does list all of the various flies that it works with and flesh flies IS one of the listed species. Set up was super easy. You cut around the dotted lines at the top of the bag and a smaller section of the yellow trap 'pulls out'. Attach some twine to the latch and hang it someplace away from your home in a well ventilated area to minimize the odor that it gives off, then fill with water up to the dotted line. The bait is enclosed in the trap within a bag that will dissolve on it's own over the course of one to three hours. I would fill it up with water once you've already hung it outside of your house to avoid the possibility of it spilling over onto your floors/carpeting (which appears has happened to another reviewer) - I don't think it would be easy to get rid of the smell if this should happen.. It's been hanging up by the side of my garage for two days now and there is about an inch of dead flies trapped within it as of this morning. It doesn't matter if they don't die right away because they can't get out once they go all the way in. Directions state that you dispose of the bag once it fills up or the bait has completely evaporated, whichever comes first (though I think if it's the later, you could probably just add more water to continue using it). I didn't find the odor to be all that bad. It's repulsive, yes, but it seems to have a limited throw of about a couple of feet - possibly more if it were placed nearby enclosed walls. As for the flies that it has captured thus far, they all appear to be bottle flies (the kind with the shiny blue-green butts). I haven't seen any flesh flies in there but I also haven't seen any new flesh flies around the house (a neighbor had a dead fish rotting out in the wooded area by her house and once the carcass was discovered and removed, none of us have seen new flesh flies in the neighborhood - hopefully that will be the last of them). Regardless of the type of fly it's capturing, I'm happy that it's at least reducing the general fly population around me :). Bottle and cluster flies tend to be what we see most in my neighborhood and I wouldn't be sad to see them reduce in number a bit - I do intend on purchasing this trap every year now that I know about it! Highly recommend.

Great for Agricultural use, DO NOT BUY for Residential use!!!
Okay. I am real honest to goodness, not sponsored in anyway purchaser. I bought this bag in attempt to get rid of as serious fly problem around the trash cans we have at the home we are currently renting. It is summertime and the bugs are pretty bad right now. We clean our cans too, hose them out every week, even bleach em…. But the flies keep coming back. So the long and short of it I bought this item in desperation for a solution. Well, I can tell you 100%, it DOES catch flies!!!! TONS OF THEM!!! And it DOES SMELL BAD. The other reviewers were not joking. So let me say this is a mixed bag of a review and I have to be very honest here. This WORKS, BUT it might NOT be ideal for your specific situation. The bag will get FULL guaranteed! Whatever attractant they are using in this product is SUPER EFFECTIVE! However, because it IS so effective you WILL see more flies than normal because this baby is gonna call them out from miles around. Your yard will become like a nightclub for flies and the go to hangout. And it stinks. And you can here them hitting the plastic bag. And some flies are just waiting around to join their buddies in the bag. Your neighbors will be disgusted. You will be disgusted. Your Amazon delivery person and the pizza guy will be disgusted. So I am not dissing the product, it definitely WORKS, but in a residential situation this may not be the best idea. I do think that this would be a great fit for ranchers and farmers. It does reduce the local population of flies dramatically. However in a domestic setting this is simply off putting and attracting TOO MANY FLIES. So in conclusion, if you are in agriculture then do buy this product because it WORKS. If you rent or own a home and don’t want to freak out your neighbors, then DO NOT BUY THIS. If you want to be “The Lord of the Flies” for Halloween, then wear a bag on your person for authenticity but don’t expect it to attract anything from another human being but revulsion however. Good luck to you in your pestilence endeavors.

It works VERY well.
UPDATE: Many years later I still use a few of these every summer. They are so good at what they are meant to do BUT BE CAREFUL. When you're ready to throw these out, make sure to use a TON of bags and only throw them out the night before garbage day. They can and do stink up the garbage bin so bad that one collection day, the garbage men actually DID NOT EMPTY my bin. It was awful. Ended up going to the dump with it. It works so well, that I usually need to buy 3 or 4 during the summer and these things fill up like crazy. I have bought many of these (as well as some other brands) and these traps simply work. If you are debating on which brand to get, I would say these are better because the plastic is very sturdy and the hanging mechanism is made of a nice solid plastic (as opposed to a thin rope some other brands use) People complain about the smell, I frankly have never had an issue with it. I have dogs in the backyard who attract flies and these are perfect for pulling flies away from them (as well as keeping them out of your house). Removal/replacement is *definitely* something to think of ahead of time. There will be a lot of flies. So much so that it will make many people squeamish while handling it. You will want to make sure that you are/will have someone who is not squeamish to take care of this task. Also, make sure to double or triple bag it when tossing out just in case. Conclusion. I will buy more of these. I will buy them this season, and I will buy them next summer, and the summers beyond. After using a few of these, the number of flies that plague your backyard will be tiny. I like to think that I am also doing a favor for my neighbors.

Amazing and gross at the same time. Bag is almost full after a week.

Unbelievable effective, almost too effective
Honestly this worked too well. We had a heap of flies so bought this to get rid of them. What it ended up doing was to bring every fly from a 10km radius to my house for some sort of fly massacre. This thing killed them by the thousands, probably killed every fly in the neighbourhood then started to bring some over from the next suburb. Definitely use it far away from your property as it brings the flies and smells a bit

Effective
I have chickens and are always conscious about if my neighbors think I have a chicken poo issue. I tried this and within a few hours there was already 1cm of dead flies floating in the top. Yes this thing stinks, so don't hang it close to your house.
