No laminate, presswood or other substrate. **Q: What size and material are the casters?** A: Pictures are misleading. They show all 4 casters as being dual locking. Only 2 are locking and those are dual locking. The other two casters do not lock at all. If you want a table that is very sturdy (no wobble) then you will have to replace the casters. The caster wheel is 2" in diameter. The total height of the caster installed is 3-1/4". The included wrench is too thick to fully seat/tighten the casters. I had to use my tappet wrench instead. **Q: Has anyone had any issues with the boards starting to separate? My table is about a year old, and it’s coming apart.** A: I've had my tale for about a year and the wood is still like new. I put a cutting mat on the table top to protect it. I don't do any heavy work on it either. I have two 3D printers on it. The table is used process prints and do minor electronics so the entire table is in fantastic condition. **Q: is the top smooth or rough?** A: It is a finished top, mostly smooth but still has some grain. Not 'glass' smooth.
