Review: Gwenpool is a wonderful read - It's funny and heartfelt and can give you emotional whiplash. She's got a refreshing style and attitude. The art is great and Gwen is so cheerful about things and ... just... you gotta read it to see. Gwenpool is only tangentially related to Deadpool, like in the conceptual phase it was "what if Gwen Stacy... was Deadpool?" but she's her own thing. Like Deadpool she knows she's in a comic, because she's from the "real" world, but unlike Deadpool she can't break the 4th wall as it were. Where Deadpool might turn to the camera (or otherwise the audience) and talk to the reader, she would just turn in some random direction and say those things because she doesn't know where the camera is. She gets a costume and becomes a "main character" because that's how you get plot armor, and figures that if she doesn't know about an alien then it was made up for her to fight. That sort of stuff. I found out after buying this that my library has it too. Heh, oh well, I love owning it. I'm gonna loan it to my friends to make them read it too. Gwenpool isn't very explicit or graphic with it's violence, but she is VERY irresponsible. I would give it a PG13 rating, and wouldn't let kids under 8 read it... but that's just me. If you have similar concerns I highly recommend you buy this and read it yourself to be your own judge (and because you'll enjoy it). And if you think you want to give your kids a better role model, I can recommend Unbeatable Squirrel Girl.
Review: A Hidden Gem - When I first saw the cover and title of this series I honestly thought it was going to be another one of those horrible overly hip comics Marvel has been trying to market to non-comic fans as of recent. This isn't a comic I normally would have bothered reading, but i picked it up because i was recommended it by a friend, and man am I glad i did. This turned out to be a joyously colorful and hilarious title in the vein of series such as Deadpool and Harley Quinn. Its honestly a shame that this came out at the time that it did because its a gem that is just getting buried under the tons of garbage titles like Squirrel Girl that Marvel has been spamming out over the last few years. This title deserves a lot more attention.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A quirky, genre-savvy heroine.
*by J***E on July 27, 2017*

Not knowing some of the lore behind a few of the characters Gwen encounters, I was a little lost. That said, the art and humour were pretty good, and the stories were fun to read. The art style tends to bounce between a realistic style and a cartoony, vaguely manga-ish style. Honestly, while both styles were pretty good in their own ways, I preferred the more cartoonish style. It fit the tone of the story and character a lot better and was a lot cleaner and easier on my eyes. I'm a sucker for a genre-savvy character, and you can't get much more genre-savvy than a reader who was pulled in from "the real world". A pretty old trope, but Gwenpool makes it work. I rate this an 8/10. It's a short read, I demolished this book within a half-hour of pulling it out of the package, but I will probably read it again, and buy the other volumes.
