My left front brake caliper was not fully releasing, and overheating the rotor. Even after a short, slow, drive home, that rotor was 470F and the other side was 144F. The car had been driven "normally" a day or two before this, and I'm sure it got significantly hotter than 470F. I rebuilt the caliper, but was concerned about rotor warpage. Thanks to this gauge, I was able to determine the rotor is indeed now out of spec - but just barely. The run-out limit is 0.05mm (0.002in), this gauge has it at 0.06mm. I don't feel any pulsation in the brakes, so the rotor can stay. I already knew there was some warping, but there's peace of mind in knowing how much. I'm really glad I got the metric version on this gauge. I think having 5 little lines (0.01mm each) of resolution is easier to read than the SAE gauge where there would be only 2 little lines (0.001 in. each).

This is a good tool, works as expected. It is precise, within expected tolerances. However, there are few things to note: Pros: 1. Good, precise measurements - its whats is supposed to do; 2. Included are a lot of heads for measuring various depths, thicknesses, etc 3. Magnetic base with on/off lever 4. good quality arms, excellent finish and precision 5. really like the fine adjustment on the secondary arm. makes it easy to adjust to zero without touching the dial indicator Cons: 1. it has a plastic back which is supposed to attach to the secondary arm with a nut but if you do that you'll notice the surface of the plastic is not perfect flat and the nut will make the device slide/move which makes it imprecise. The plastic backing makes this dial indicator feel cheap. 2. the magnetic base/magnet is weak. at a certain angle the device will fall off/peel off the surface is attached to magnetically 3. the main arm is screwed in the magnetic base with a nut tight to keep it from moving. The magnetic base seems to be made from aluminium. the threads in the magnetic base are almost stripped trying to tight that nut. 4. the dial ring around the dial indicator is too tight (probably not properly assembled or de-burred) trying to adjust to zero is almost impossible - even with the lock screw lessened completely. completely disturbs the measurement.
