The ways of magic are revealed in nature...The secrets are written in meandering streams and drifting clouds, whispered by the roaring ocean and cooling breeze, echoed through caves and rocks and forests. When you draw a heart in the sand, call on the four winds for assistance, or ask the rain to wash away a bad habit, you are practicing earth magic. By working in harmony with nature, we can transform ourselves, our lives, and our world. This tried-and-true guide offers more than one hundred spells, rites, and simple rituals you can perform using the powerful energy of the earth. Scott Cunningham was a greatly respected teacher and one of the most influential members of the modern Craft movement. A practitioner of elemental magic for twenty years, he wrote more than fifty books, including the seminal Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner . Review: A Solid Read - Scott Cunningham’s interest in magic stemmed from his inborn desire to not only ask questions, but “…In my search for answers I came across half-forgotten religions and magical systems born in far-distant corners of the globe…” If I had personally known Cunningham when he penned, “Earth Power: Techniques of Natural Magic,” I would have encouraged him to seek higher education in cultural anthropology with a particular focus in the anthropology of religion; he would have made an excellent anthropologist. Cunningham shows readers that, unlike many organized forms of Wicca, individuals can—and have for centuries—engaged with the use of the earth via spells. The one thing that I really appreciate about the author is his honesty, his concerns for other people and the earth, and especially his ethical values—values which he tries to impart to his readership. The author is a good, solid writer and if he had lived longer, he no doubt would have left us with **even more** writings than he has (which are already voluminous). I really like how one can see from his bibliography how far back in time he went to conduct research. For example, he included James Frazer’s “The Golden Bough.” When I was a first-year graduate student, everyone in the “Introduction to Cultural Anthropology” class had to pick a hefty-sized book from a list to read, with no overlap. I picked Lewis Henry Morgan’s “System’s of Consanguinity and Affinity,” while another student picked “The Golden Bough.” During our in-class discussion, I remember being mesmerized by my fellow students explanations of it. This was a fascinating and enjoyable read, as have been all of the books that he’s written that I’ve read so far. Review: Good quality good value good price - This is a used book. It was received in good condition, as listed. I collect the author's books. Easy to read comes with extras and very easy to listen to on audiobook the author explains everything really well very easy to understand. This is a part one of a two-part series. Part two is Earth Air Fire and water.

Informational
I read this alongside Earth, Air, Fire, Water for a bookclub this year. Alone it's great and has wonderful spells, paired with his other book it's very in depth. This was written before you needed to source which traditions you were taking from, and I would've liked to know. However, Cunningham is a great author and I highly recommend his books to anyone- advanced, beginner, or just curious. It should be noted that he seems to erase the darker side of magic, such as cursing, so you should find another author of you're looking for such things. Altogether, definitely 5 stars.

nice and simple
As a skeptic who wants to believe, I find myself getting a lot of books on similar subjects. I find this to be one of my most favorites. I've dabbled with it here and there, getting mixed results, but as an agnostic rather than say...a pagan maybe that's to be expected. What is really nice about the book is its simplicity in text. It doesn't scream "light 4 black candles, 2 blue candles on a full moon on this month" rather it gives simple instructions to allow anyone at anytime to do any of the things inside of it. The simple relaxed approach allows for a TON of different "spells" to fit inside, often up to three on one page. I bought this book a while back and lost it, so I repurchased it again. I like this newer version less, the beautiful illustrations inside have been taken out completely. This is a shame since they enhanced the beauty of the book.

Simple, old-style natural magic; I love it!
I absolutely love this book. I have never been attracted to magic that requires all kinds of fancy and expensive tools. This book is beautiful in its simplicity, and focuses on simply working with the powers and forces of nature to bring about desired results. To me that is so much more empowering than complex spells or rituals which make it harder to actually connect with nature. This is the old-style natural magic of the common people. It's such a refreshing read. I've ordered the sequel as well and can't wait to delve into that!

A great primer on Natural Magick
This was a seminal book of magick for me when it came out years ago. Its simple and practical sorcery blended with the powers of Nature. I'd recommend to anyone who wants a gentle introduction of what can be potent magick. This is a stepping stone, a pleasant walk to help awaken You to the magic that surrounds us all - ever present and unfolding like waves on the sea, winds through trees, or the stillness of a forest.

Good reference
I've always loved Cunningham's work. This is a great book for those who are on a natural path, but not necessarily considering Wicca, at least not yet. In either case, this would be a good stepping stone to attune yourself with the elements and energies around you. I highly recommend his works, except his herbal works, only because I don't own them yet. It is written in a friendly, practical way that is easy to relate to, and the tools listed are easy to find. You don't need a heavy cauldron, just a stock pot and the intent.

Great Magical Foundation
Gives a great foundation on elemental magic and other forms. There's plenty of examples, but it's the reasoning why this particular form of magic is better than the other allows me to create my own spells.

Brilliant, with really easy to practice rituals
Reading Scott Cunningham's words is like talking to an old friend. There's so much warmth in his writing. Earth Power was such a gentle and glorious book. Truth be told, many of the practices Scott mentions here are already performed by practitioners of Hinduism. I found that I could merge my Hindu beliefs and practices with Wicca practices very well. The rituals mentioned in this book are all about honouring the sacred power of nature. I fell in love with these practices and I believe they will enrich my life tremendously. A must buy for anyone wanting to reconnect with Mother Earth.
