Nicotine also increases blood pressure. The tars aren't good for you either. The moisture and steam can cause tongue and mouth burn. These stop all of that, and I do not notice any decrease in flavor. They also prevent the tobacco and ash from coming up the stem and into your mouth. I never noticed a draw problem either. I usually discard after each smoke and they're cheap enough to go fresh every time. I can't think of any good reason to not use them. Now I only buy pipes that can take a 9mm filter.
