I assume this was because of the oils slowly diffusing through the leather. During this time, I also treated the shift boot and parking brake boot. The parking brake boot looked fine, but was always stiff and felt paper-like (in the 2 years I have had the car anyway). Since the shift boot and parking brake aren't really ever touched, I just left the oil on them for the last few weeks, and both have shown a remarkable improvement. It changed my leather from stiff, discolored, and creased to a supple, clean, and relatively smooth appearance and feel. It cleaned the white part of my seats to a nice and new bright white, and took the brown crud in the leather grain out of both the white and black parts of the seat. It didn't damage or discolor the alcantara inserts. It also worked really well on my automatic shifter and my steering wheel - everything is now a clean, supple, matte finish. Take care to clean off the product and let it sit for a sufficient time before sititing in the seats, it felt a little tacky for a few hours after the last step.
